UMDNJ Accelerated BSN students

I was just accepted to the program starting this fall (August 30th?) and would like to start a forum among the 50 students that were accepted. I have already run into one other student online. I have a feeling we'll need to get very close knit rather fast to get through the program. Since our lives will necessarily have to be studying all the time I'm sure it'll be helpful to form study groups, etc. I will probably be planning a meet and greet before classes start.

Sincerely,

Marc Adam Goodman

Hi

I'm not YET in UMDNJ program but when you start it,I might have questions coming to you related to MSN bridge program.I'm sure you won't mind answering.

Good Luck

I am interested in UMDNJ's program, but haven't applied or been accepted. Do you really have to have all the prereqs completed before you even apply? Is there only one yearly start date for the program? Do they offer free tuition if you sign a contract and if so, do you have to work in Newark? Just curious

I heard that they no longer provide free tuition exchange for work contract program.

I guess you only need to finish all pre-requisites before the program starts. But you need to check with the program director to make sure.

I was just accepted to the program for the summer, i think it starts July 1. I know some students that are currently in the program, but none that are starting at the same time as me. So, anyone else accepted yet to the Summer program??

I am considering the Accelerated BSN program for this fall - anyone else? I'd love to talk to anyone that is currently in the program, is an alumni, or considering. I am a little nervous to resign from my full time job and start school again!!

Can you work while in the program?

Which classes are especially difficult and may need more attention?

Thanks!

Since I'm the one that started this post before I began the program and since I just finished I feel as though I can give you a decent idea..

I did not work during the program and there were times where I really needed every second I had to study or relax a little. Others did work, very part time, out of necessity.

I asked a friend from school what she thought about working and she responded "hmmm depends on the person and the profs they happen to get and the job they have some people can handle working full time, some can handle part time, some can't handle working at all and some can't handle the program at all"

I wouldn't recommend working if you don't have to. I didn't, but now owe about 16k in private loans on top of tuition. I can say that myself, I probably wouldn't have made it through if I was also working. Don't forget that you spend way more time per credit than a normal class because you're spending time in clinical. Other people did work and managed somehow. It depends on your constitution.

Pathophysiology and med-surg probably warrant the most attention, but really its all important.

It can certainly be a bumpy road. I wouldn't put more stress than is necessary before you get a good feel for it.

Good luck!

well i figured id give an update for anyone whose still interested in the program who will be starting in the fall. i'm currently in the middle of my first semester (i started in may) and its intense. the first semester is the most difficult because its the only semester where you take 5 classes rather than 4. the workload is heavy and requires a lot of studying and devotion. im managing to work, but i still don't know how. i started as part time (2 days a week, including weekends) but had to cut back to per diem because i just couldn't handle it. there are other ppl in my class who work more, are full time parents (a job in itself) or those who don't work at all. it all depends on the person and your study habits. as others have said, it also depends on the professors you have. well, i hope this helps a little!! good luck to those of you starting in the fall, and enjoy the rest of your summer while you still have the free time!!

Thanks njmonsterboi80 and jerzytech - the feedback is much appreciated!!

I just applied for fall admission - one of the admission coordinators said that it's still possible to get in (I hope what he is saying is true!) - so hopefully in the next couple weeks I will get the final word.

If either of you think of any other advice, anything at all, please email me.

Again, thanks so much.

I got in!!! Anyone else about to begin the program in the fall?

On the website, it says the program is 4 semesters...how many months is that? If I begin in September, when would I graduate?

I believe you'll graduate December 2007.
