UMB Spring 2010 Applicants (BSN or CNL)

Published

After following the Fall '09 thread with great interest, I thought it might be time to start a new thread for the Spring '10 applicants since we're inching closer to the Sep 1 deadline. I have a technical question for those who have applied before. I submitted my CNL application online this morning and paid the $50 and now it seems like my application has slipped into a vortex that I don't have access to. When I log onto SURFS to check my status, the only option that it gives me is to submit a new application. Is there somewhere else on the website that I should be looking to confirm that my application has been submitted and is pending review or awaiting additional information (transcripts, recommendations, etc)? Perhaps there is a delay between when the application is submitted and when the status is visible?

Best of luck to all the other applicants...now the agonizing waiting game begins! Looking forward to giving each other support and encouragement on this thread.

Will do. Thanks for the advice. I will just wait until that day, and if necessary I will drive my deposit over to them and take my chances! Good luck everyone and have a great weekend!

Maybe your other school would take a credit card for the deposit at the end of the day on Oct. 30 if you have not yet heard from Maryland. You could find out. I know of students who did put down a deposit and then got into our program and had to forfeit it. Nobody was happy about that but, considering how cheap our tuition is compared to most other schools, many folks felt they came out ahead.

If only it was...wake me up when October ends......

Chill, everyone.....nothing else you can do. Crossing my fingers and toes for all of you.

Grey Lady,

If one decides to go the accelerated MSN route, do you know if employers prefer that nurses have a BSN also or is it generally ok to have just the MSN?

Thanks

The answer to that is complicated and different for every individual - in the end it is your choice. That being said, you need more information about the Clinical Nurse Leader program than I can give you. The perfect opportunity to have your questions answered exists this Saturday at the Universities at Shady Grove Open House 9 am to noon in Rockville, Maryland. Dr. Joan Davenport, Co-director of the CNL program will be here to meet with prospective students to answer their questions about the program at a session at noon. We are not expecting a huge number of people so you would get quality face time with her. If you need directions, go to the Shady Grove website: http://www.shadygrove.umd.edu.

Good luck!

Hi Grey Lady,

Thanks for that bit of info. Are there going to be any other info sessions for the CNL Program soon? I live in Dallas and I need a little more time to plan. I would love to attend an info session. Thanks in advanced.

Well, I guess you need to plan!! There will not be another CNL session that I know of until spring and it will be in Baltimore. Watch the website for the Entry Into Practice Open House which features the BSN and CNL programs side by side. Last year it was in April. I hold BSN information sessions at the Shady Grove campus, but we only talk about the CNL program a little bit since it is not offered here. My information sessions are listed on the Shady Grove website: http://www.shadygrove.umd.edu.

tic-toc, tic-toc,.....can the wait get any worse than this...thinking I should apply to JHU-SON just in case....

Grey lady or anyone:

Two questions about tomorrow's information session at Shady Grove:

1. What is the format? Is this an open House, or is it a scheduled session that begins at 9?

2. On the website this is listed as an information session for the traditional BSN program, but will there be any info on the CNL program?

Thanks
