UMB Spring 2010 Applicants (BSN or CNL)

Published

After following the Fall '09 thread with great interest, I thought it might be time to start a new thread for the Spring '10 applicants since we're inching closer to the Sep 1 deadline. I have a technical question for those who have applied before. I submitted my CNL application online this morning and paid the $50 and now it seems like my application has slipped into a vortex that I don't have access to. When I log onto SURFS to check my status, the only option that it gives me is to submit a new application. Is there somewhere else on the website that I should be looking to confirm that my application has been submitted and is pending review or awaiting additional information (transcripts, recommendations, etc)? Perhaps there is a delay between when the application is submitted and when the status is visible?

Best of luck to all the other applicants...now the agonizing waiting game begins! Looking forward to giving each other support and encouragement on this thread.

The Open House this Thursday, 4 to 6 pm in Baltimore is a graduate open house for prospective students interested in the Psych Mental Health, clinical nurse specialist and nurse practitioner both adult and family focus and Nurse Anesthesia. If you are interested in the BSN or CNL programs they won't be addressing those programs at this session. If you would like to attend an information session for BSN or CNL, Shady Grove is holding one this Friday, Oct. 9 at 10 am and there will be a meeting for prospective CNL students at noon with the Co-Director on Saturday, October 24 at noon. The new School of Nursing website has not yet been updated with these dates yet.

Yes, thanks for clarifying Grey Lady. I am going because I am interested in eventually doing the NP or CRNA program.

Grey Lady,

I've already submitted my CNL application for fall 2010, and I know the deadline is February 01, 2010. My question is, about how long after that will I hear something. The site already says Application Status:Complete Ready for Review

Thanks in advance,

You can count on six to eight weeks after the deadline before offers are made. Best of luck!

If, between now and Feb. 1, you acquire any health care experience, volunteer or paid, be sure to update your resume - it's a plus.

Grey Lady,

How much of a plus will being a LPN with ICU, LTC, Charge Nurse and Supervisor experience be for me? I know that applicants are not allowed to be a RN but how much will being a LPN benefit me for admissions? Thank in advance.

Grey Lady-

I applied to the CNL program, and I would like to update my resume with my current volunteer work. Where should I send my updated resume? Since decisions are sure to be made in the next few weeks, would faxing it be more efficient in getting it into my application file?

Also, I sent in an updated transcript grades from summer courses that were not in by the Sept. 1 deadline. Will these be included in my file?

Thank you

Grey Lady or anyone else with knowledge,

For the statistics requirement, can it be from the social science departments... ie... psych/soci or busi? Thanks

mlh0283:

I'm a CNL applicant and, before I submitted my application, I sent in my unofficial transcripts for their review (see the UMB SON website for the form you fax in to do this). They indicated that they would accept my business statistics (my prior degree is in busines/finance) for the statistics requirement. Hope this helps---I highly recommend that you send in the transcript eval form to make sure that you're on the same sheet of music in terms of the prerequisites you need. Best of luck to you!

I concur - statistics for the social sciences should be accepted but you will want your transcripts evaluated just in case.

I would think that kind of experience would count for a lot.
