UMB Spring 2010 Applicants (BSN or CNL)

Published

After following the Fall '09 thread with great interest, I thought it might be time to start a new thread for the Spring '10 applicants since we're inching closer to the Sep 1 deadline. I have a technical question for those who have applied before. I submitted my CNL application online this morning and paid the $50 and now it seems like my application has slipped into a vortex that I don't have access to. When I log onto SURFS to check my status, the only option that it gives me is to submit a new application. Is there somewhere else on the website that I should be looking to confirm that my application has been submitted and is pending review or awaiting additional information (transcripts, recommendations, etc)? Perhaps there is a delay between when the application is submitted and when the status is visible?

Best of luck to all the other applicants...now the agonizing waiting game begins! Looking forward to giving each other support and encouragement on this thread.

im going to guess that its probably not going to have any CNL information since you can only take the CNL program at UMB. Thats a guess though, I am sure that you could probably ask questions though. Hope this helps!

Hello,

Grey Lady stated that there would be info given on the CNL Program at the informational tomorrow. Scroll up a little, I think that it was on this thread. Enjoy tomorrow...

Hi, folks,

Sorry - I was unable to answer you yesterday. The Shady Grove Open House was today and we did have the Co-Director of the CNL program here for a program information session at noon. I don't think we can get her back here until spring. However, please watch the website, http://www.nursing.umaryland.edu for the next Entry Into Practice Open House which is for both prospective BSN and CNL students and features the programs side by side so that you can get the information you need to make your own decision about which is the best fit for you.

Also, the review process is taking longer than expected - we have made major changes to it which actually mean more in depth review of each applicant - which means that the acceptance letters might not go out until November 8. Please do not freak out if you have not heard by November 1. I am so very sorry, I know how hard this is. Hang in there!

hmm what kind of changes? Is it more selective? Is there a greater than expected amount of applicants?

aiy the stress :(:confused::(

Just more people (talented, knowledgeable people) involved in the selection process. They will not miss anything in an applicant's portfolio. It's a good thing, really, even if it takes longer.

Thanks for the update, Grey Lady. It was very thoughtful (and brave!!) for you to share this information with us. Does this decision delay apply for both programs (BSN and CNL)? Should we be looking for the online status to change around the 8th or is that the anticipated timeframe for the letter in the mail? (I'm under the impression from earlier UMB threads that we can see our admission decision online a little while before we get the actual letter in the mail--can you confirm this?) Last question--I promise!--will our online status indicate if there has been a rejection or does the online decision only indicate acceptances? Thanks for all the time you take to answer our questions. You're a very valuable and gracious resource!

Grey Lady,

Speaking of ANYTHING.... what are, if you can say, some of the "new" things that these talented people will be looking for? Thank you. You are like human ATIVAN when it comes to soothing our nerves...

Grey Lady, is it true the NET Is going to be phased out? I've been hearing that...

Did everyone just hear a a loud "thump" - it was all of our hearts dropping!! 7 more days seems like an eternity.

Specializes in Pediatric Emergency.

Quick question: when they say culmative gpa, do they mean the gpa of all the schools I went to? ie., several differnt colleges? Or do they look at the last school I went to? I ask because my gpa never transfered over when I moved. I think someone at the open house said that it only the last school. But Im not 100%

November 1 was the goal to have all letters in the mail for both CNL and BSN and status in the system updated. That has been moved back to November 8. It is my understanding that the system will be updated at the same time that letters go into the mail so it's logical you will see it online before snail mail arrives. I don't know if the status will include rejections but it has in the past.

I don't think the admissions process has changed in what is reviewed - there are just more people involved in doing it. So you have more different sets of eyes looking at the same application.

The NET is being phased out - the TEAS will replace it. Both will be accepted for applications for all semesters up until fall 2010. NET will not exist after that.

Cumulative GPA is from all schools but the most recent academic work is more heavily weighted as representative of the applicant's ability.

Hang in there everyone and let me know what happens!
