UMB Spring 2010 Applicants (BSN or CNL)

Published

After following the Fall '09 thread with great interest, I thought it might be time to start a new thread for the Spring '10 applicants since we're inching closer to the Sep 1 deadline. I have a technical question for those who have applied before. I submitted my CNL application online this morning and paid the $50 and now it seems like my application has slipped into a vortex that I don't have access to. When I log onto SURFS to check my status, the only option that it gives me is to submit a new application. Is there somewhere else on the website that I should be looking to confirm that my application has been submitted and is pending review or awaiting additional information (transcripts, recommendations, etc)? Perhaps there is a delay between when the application is submitted and when the status is visible?

Best of luck to all the other applicants...now the agonizing waiting game begins! Looking forward to giving each other support and encouragement on this thread.

When looking at the class schedules:

Does anyone know what the + si means after the teacher's name means in the class schedule? There are si + all over the schedule and some have them and some don't why?

in advance, Thank you for answering!

I would guess it means that others, guest lecturers, outside experts, etc. will also be teaching an occasional class. I am not remembering ever seeing this before.

Specializes in Pediatric Emergency.

Does UMB have a veteran's affair department at the Shadygrove campus?

Does UMB have a veteran's affair department at the Shadygrove campus?

I am afraid not. Depending on the issue, you would prbably deal with either the Office of Admissions or Registration Services. If all you need is a letter on school stationary verifying that you are a full time student or a reference, we can handle that for you. Also, I am a notary public in case you need one. There are plenty of military folks in our student body from all branches of the service.

I received my packet today. Question: Should we or can we register for classes? I'm still in the process of renewing my CPR and finishing up my last pre-req. Are we suppose to wait until orientation?

I've been accepted to the BSN program.

I was wondering about registering for classes too. I'm in the same boat as you scrub

Do we have to have everything done before we register??? i just got back so i havent had a chance to look at the packet. Im doing the cpr next saturday.

On the online class schedule listing does anyone know for the Section what does these mean?

WB1 and SG1

I think it means Shady Grove 1 (so that class is at shady grove)

what does WB stand for and i think when there is just numbers like 01, 02, it's at the Baltimore campus?

Regarding class registration. You may go ahead and register now even though you have not finished your last classes. Follow the instructions carefully - first you send in a form (which gets you into the system) THEN you actually register on line. You are not registered until you have registered yourself online. The section number indicates whether the class is face to face at Shady Grove (SG1) or online or web-based (WB1) or face to face on main campus (like 01 - any two digits). There is virtually no choice your first semester and the class schedule is written so that none of your required classes conflict with any other required classes. Your tuition bill will be generated when you register but is not due until the week before classes start (Monday, Jan. 25) so don't let that keep you from registering. If you are a Shady Grove student who registers for a Baltimore class or vice versa, you will probably hear from me wondering if you made a mistake. It's one that is easily fixed but it has to be right by the first day of class. Hope this helps - don't hesitate to ask for more.

Ok thanks Grey Lady.

One more question: I currently have my BLS Healthcare Provider CPR but it's about to expire this coming January should I just renew the one I have or start a new class? Does it matter?

You will need a new CPR card - Basic Life Support is not adequate - it has to be either Professional Rescuer or Healthcare Provider issued by either American Red Cross or American Heart Association and nobody else. This is not the school's rule, by the way, it is what the hospitals where your clinicals will be are demanding - we pretty much have to do what they say. I can't tell you exactly why but we have had students get in trouble with this before. I would hate to have you scrambling at the last minute. I don't know what you would have to do to upgrade from BLS but suspect you will need a new class. Please post what you find out as others may be in your same situation.

My current card pretty much looks like this one:

Its from the BLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR&AED) program offered by the American Heart Association.

I think I'm just gonna end up taking a new class just to avoid any possible issues. The one I'm probably gonna end up doing is offered by Montgomery College.

Here is the link incase anyone is interested:

Actually that one is right so I think you are good to go at least through your first semester. But for those of you looking at Montgomery College classes - make sure your card will look like this one. "CPR Doctor" cards will not work, nor will others who are not American Red Cross or Heart Association.
