UMB Spring 2010 Applicants (BSN or CNL)

Published

After following the Fall '09 thread with great interest, I thought it might be time to start a new thread for the Spring '10 applicants since we're inching closer to the Sep 1 deadline. I have a technical question for those who have applied before. I submitted my CNL application online this morning and paid the $50 and now it seems like my application has slipped into a vortex that I don't have access to. When I log onto SURFS to check my status, the only option that it gives me is to submit a new application. Is there somewhere else on the website that I should be looking to confirm that my application has been submitted and is pending review or awaiting additional information (transcripts, recommendations, etc)? Perhaps there is a delay between when the application is submitted and when the status is visible?

Best of luck to all the other applicants...now the agonizing waiting game begins! Looking forward to giving each other support and encouragement on this thread.

also anyone bought any good medcalc books?? i just bought one today since i know im going to need to review it!

so how did it transfer to umd if they require all B's?

just keep trying!! i got a c in that class. Lab killed me, i had no idea what i was doing at the beginning! i got at tutor and went to study groups but for the most part, i could only get c's. I don't know how they expected us to learn all the info in such a short amount of time.

you can do it!!!! ask for extra credit also, you never know!

how did the C transfer if it has to be a B? thanks for your kind words!

i dont know i took it in spring. maybe we just need b's for the grades we have not completed?

I've read the message boards before and not everyone had a's and b's in all their sciences and they got in too. i hpe this helps.

interesting. you may be right in that they require the B just for remaining prereqs. you know what's funny? this would be the first C I have ever received and I've been in school for more than 10 years. if i don't get in b/c of this one C that just wouldn't seem right. it just wouldn't make sense. wow. i think i would try to plead my case in person at baltimore. if they say no I would have to be at peace with that. Thanks lunaaedon.

Congrats to all those who made it into the BSN or CNL program!

Be ready to put on your rollerskates and take a two-year long race to the finish line!

Any Shady Grove folks on this thread?

Here is a link for the Med Calc book that was recommended to me (I've also seen this same one for sale at the Baltimore campus and at the Shady Grove bookstore):

I have a friend who works for the publisher (Lippincott) and she just passed on a 40% coupon code that can be used on any Lippincott purchase (she said it was okay if I shared it with all of you). When checking out (either online or by calling 1-800-638-3030) use coupon code WC84L9ZZ. Please let me know if you have any difficulty with this. The coupon code expires 12/31 and can be used on *any* Lippincott books. (Yes, I'm going to see what other texts that we need might be included).

Hope this helps---the next couple of months are going to be very expensive as we get ready for nursing school!!

what are you going to do instead? just curious... and nosy... i saw where one is going to georgetown instead....

I got my acceptance letter today, so now I can share :)

I am actually going to PA school! I was accepted at AACC for the class of 2012. I decided a few months ago that PA was more appealing to me so I went for it! I'm so excited!!

Good luck to everyone!!!!

CNL package arrived in the mail today (and I was one of the ones who was just notified a few days ago). At this point, I'm 99% sure that I'm' going to go with the Accelerated BSN program at Marymount instead. This has been a gut-wrenching decision and I still have two more weeks until the point of no return but, at this point, I think that the Marymount program is going to be the best fit for me and my family for myriad reasons. It's hard to say goodbye to all of my fellow UMB applicants---it's been a wild journey and I look forward to crossing paths with you down the road as nurses. Best wishes to everyone for a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

I'm headed to Shady Grove for the BSN program. I'm excited to start already. I still need to get my shot records and CPR but I'm working on that. See you all soon and congrats to everyone on making it this far.

For a long time I have been struggling with what to say to those of you who will not be joining us in January. Right now, you must be so very disappointed. But you know, UMB is not the only good nursing school. While this may be a detour in your way, it's not the end. Don't be saying to yourself that it's not meant to be - the important thing is the goal, not how you get there. Fatalism takes you and all your gifts to give out of the equation - a terrible loss. As former governor Erlich said at one of our graduation ceremonies, "Thank you, thank you, thank you for choosing this profession!" You are needed. May you find your own way very soon. God speed.

So for those of us who haven't heard back from UMB yet, does that mean we were not accepted into the program?? My status has not changed....and it's soooooo annoying!!
