UMB Spring 2010 Applicants (BSN or CNL)

Published

After following the Fall '09 thread with great interest, I thought it might be time to start a new thread for the Spring '10 applicants since we're inching closer to the Sep 1 deadline. I have a technical question for those who have applied before. I submitted my CNL application online this morning and paid the $50 and now it seems like my application has slipped into a vortex that I don't have access to. When I log onto SURFS to check my status, the only option that it gives me is to submit a new application. Is there somewhere else on the website that I should be looking to confirm that my application has been submitted and is pending review or awaiting additional information (transcripts, recommendations, etc)? Perhaps there is a delay between when the application is submitted and when the status is visible?

Best of luck to all the other applicants...now the agonizing waiting game begins! Looking forward to giving each other support and encouragement on this thread.

So for those of us who haven't heard back from UMB yet, does that mean we were not accepted into the program?? My status has not changed....and it's soooooo annoying!!

It may mean that the first round of offers have gone out and that you are on a waiting list. As you can see by this thread, not everyone who is given an offer will accept it, in which case they go to the waiting list to fill that seat. So, if anyone out there has an offer and will turn it down - please be kind and do it quickly.

Grey Lady,

Will they give the provisional-admit students a call as well? And if provisional-admit does mean we get in, what else do we need to do other than get our immunizations, cpr certification, and deposit?

I don't know about whether you would get a call but if you do get an offer all you would need to do to nail it is to sign the agreement and send in your deposit. All that other stuff about CPR and immunizations would be later. And the provisional part would refer to your grades in any classes you are taking this semester - you would need Bs or better to solidify your admission. Best of luck!

Im in!!!!!! :D I got my phone call on Wedn!

Congrats everyone I will be seeing you all in Baltimore campus in January.

Congratulations! Welcome to UMB!

Just got my packet today. Anyone else having trouble logging in? I am not authorized, yet. I was ready to sign up for classes but it says I'm not in the system.

Also is it possible to use a mac in nursing school? I saw the DELL they offer in the packet is 1200$. For 1200$ I would rather have a new Mac but I don't want to be the one suffering through platform incompatibilities.

Anyone?

I don't know about the computer... I'd call someone down there or hope a student answers your question...

Does anyone know what the + si means after the teacher's name?

When you all start I will be begining my senior year here at UMB-SG campus (yay!!) You can certainly use Mac laptops. Most students prefer Mac, and have not had issues with compatibility, just make sure you have the Microsoft Office software for Mac so that you are able to open up PowerPoints and Word Documents.

You don't have to have a laptop if you don't want, although if you do, it will certainly save on money on paper and ink (from having to print ppt slides). Its really your own personal preference. I've seen many come back this semester with new laptops, but I personally prefer the old school paper printout of my slides. Again, its personal preference. But I'll have to just add that in your first semester you are carrying so many books around that you might want to cut back on weight in your backpack! Just go for the first week or two and get a feel for what you would prefer and then decide then if you prefer to purchase a laptop.

Hope that helps

I definitely like to print things out (sorry trees) so I can make notes on them. I did my pre reqs at the community college and we were able to print out slides from power point in their computer lab for free. Hopefully we can do the same at Shady Grove.

Great news about the Mac compatibility. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

Call the I T Help Desk on Monday about the Mac at 410 706-HELP. Maybe they can warn you of any issues. Also, on the school website somewhere are the minimum requirements for any computer you would need. As for printing for free - I am afraid those days are over. At Shady Grove I am pretty sure printing or copying in the Library or Computer Labs is 10 cents a page and I would guess that's what it costs on main campus as well. Also, be aware that sometimes the powerpoint might not be available until just before class.

One last thing - at Shady Grove the entire campus is wireless but you need to take your laptop to the IT folks to have it configured - it only takes a couple of minutes and they are open almost all the time.

When looking at the class schedules:

Does anyone know what the + si means after the teacher's name means in the class schedule? There are si + all over the schedule and some have them and some don't why?
