UMASS Amherst ABSN 2021

Published

Hi, everyone!

I am planning on applying to UMASS for the 2021 cycle of their ABSN program. I will be graduating in December of this year (2020) with my bachelor's in health sciences.

Anyone else going to be applying? ?

^yeah and I really like how they factor in everything! Here in Cali almost all schools are solely by GPA

For those who got accepted, when are your deposits due? just trying to get a feeling of when they'll start pulling ppl out of the waitlist

$500 March 5th.
im putting deposit down while waiting on a decision from another school so there’s a chance I will drop even after deposit

hi all! I got my acceptance letter this weekend! (stats in case anyone asks: bachelors 3.0, masters 3.4, prereqs all A's except B+ in stats and micro, hospital volunteer, and full time engineer, applied Jan 13). letter says have to accept w 500$ deposit by Mar 5 or spot will go to waitlist.

do you guys recommend where one should live to go to this program? I'm from NJ so I will have to move closer for school. I am waiting to hear back from instate schools but I am really considering and leaning towards UMASS. It seems like a great program!

Hey I finally heard back but I got waitlisted as well. I don’t feel happy either do I feel sad LOL. But I email someone from the school and the person told me that the waitlist is alphabetical and that’s the order they will go in. How do you feel about being waitlisted?

wait why would the waitlist be in alphabetical order? you mean by an applicant's last name??

Yes! That’s what I was told, It’s in alphabetical order and it’s not a numbered list. Are you on the waitlist?

join the facebook group!! im in a similar situation.. im from southern dutchess NY so I would be moving to the area as well. according to what I've heard from a girl in the program currently you are always at the springfield campus and clinical are in that area as well

Ouch. So yes. They send a rejection email and honestly, I appreciate transparency so here goes:

I have my BSW with a 3.8 and my MSW 3.5. My pre-reqs were a 3.9. I am an LCSW working towards independent licensure. I have tons of experience in mental health field and discussed that, being a team captain of my college team, various volunteer experiences, etc. and how I have a goal of becoming a PMHNP in a community based mental health setting. I reached out to OE admissions submitting my human growth and development two part course syllabi from my undergraduate studies and requesting a syllabus review to make sure this course met the requirement for the prerequisites. I received an email from them stating it did in fact meet the requirements and they would accept it. I received an email today with my rejection stating that the reason they could not accept it was because I supposedly did not take that course. LOL.

I am a little emotional right now because it’s been a lengthy road and I sure as heck don’t want to be rejected because of a simple mistake. Make sure you check the fine details people. I have reached out asking for clarification but from what it looks like, something was overlooked. ?

Good luck to everyone else and congrats to those who got in!

I am so sorry to hear! I had a similar experience where I wasn’t sure they would accept my Social Science statistics and I sent in a pre-req approval form in the Summer, and never heard back. I sent three emails before Ms. Jones finally got back to me and unfortunately hit a brick wall ahead with that ? it was clear that the program is really overwhelmed with all of the interest which is definitely a good thing but also can have a downside when needing resources. So, I just took the chance and prayed they accepted it and indeed they did because I got accepted. I would of been so devastated if that had led to my denial to the program.

Good luck and don’t give up

@Abw12345 I’m so sorry to hear that. This is to no fault of your own and I wonder if maybe you can argue that. Try emailing them again because they gave you the wrong information and you clearly are very interested in this program. Maybe they will look back on their records and realize their mistakes and put you on the waitlist? Just a thought. Good luck and don’t give up!

@Abw12345 I got the same exact reject about for invalid Human Growth and Development Prereq. I emailed [email protected] and they gave me a call back and explained why my course didn't fit. But in your case if you got it approved before applying I feel like they have to accept it. Definitely try [email protected] and request a phone call.
