Hi guys!
I'm currently completing my undergrad+prereqs to apply in the next year to UM's ABSN program for the Spring 2019 session (Apps due next august). I know it's a very premature thread but I thought there might be other applicants for the Spring 2019 session who are already freaking out about apps like me. If any students who were accepted for previous threads could share their experience, tips, or stats here that would be incredibly helpful.
We got this.
@Melrosewood mine still says incomplete. Honestly my overall GPA was nothing to write home about (3.2) but my pre req gpa was close to a 3.7. This was the only school I've applied too for the spring 2019 term. I honesty think it's coming down to my experience level not being up to par. I only worked in healthcare for a year and that was 3 years ago. The only active healthcare work I do now is volunteer for my towns ambulance corps as an Aider.
Have you considered applying to Nova? They're rolling admissions as well. USF also has a Spring ABSN program and their app opens in August.
@chris.colby Do you feel that your personal statement was a game changer? UM def takes into consideration your extracurricular activities and your purpose. You don't necessarily need experience. I have known people with a 3.3 avg overall and science get accepted into UM. It's what you choose to do with your free-time that counts.
Also, if you can get a LOR from your volunteer institution, as well as your prior employer's employment verification letter, you can still apply to FIU's winter 2019 program. FIU just like NSU, requires interviews, which means you have a 2nd chance to really sell yourself. AND NSU has 3 different campuses you can apply to. Miami, Ft. Laud and Davie. You have until July 15th for FIU! Nova is a longer program since it isn't an ABSN but its rolling admission and there minimum science GPA req is 2.75.
I'm also really hoping I get accepted into UM, so I understand the struggle.
@melrosewood yea my personal statement was probably one of the best that I've written (at least I thought so haha) so that would also help. Honestly all these other schools have other pre requisites that I would have to complete and I don't really feel like doing anymore of those. At the rate I've gone with pre requisites I could have 1/4 of a new degree already haha
