Whatever anyone says...

JUST TRY IT if you think you're qualified!

Listening to negativity only worsens things...

Just go for it!

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Be interested to see if it works out for people. Don't forget you need to register with the NMC and meet requirements before you can work and probably before you find a employer. Also make sure the job advert states they will assist with getting a work permit, if they say they will not then don't apply

Specializes in intensive care, recovery, anesthetics.

Good for you guys.

I'm still surprised, since the NHS jobs I came across all stated not eligible for visas.

But anyway, just be careful that you're offered a decent salary and orientation time, I started off in the private area, and the payment was quite poor (everybody got the same regardless of experience). There was also no assistance in housing, transport and so on. The first bunch of my collegues ended up having to stay in a B&B. We all had difficulties in getting a bank account (tricky in UK). The help we got was from our coworkers, it was especially difficult for the guys who didn't drive/ didn't have a car available.

Good luck

Specializes in Advanced Practice, surgery.

The department of labour and employment is a Phillapine government organisation and the news article is also a Filapino article. I'd be interested how these nurses have managed to get around the VISA restrictions that are currently in force in the UK at the moment.

As a recruiting manager I am still unable to recruit from anywhere other then the UK or EU so I have to be honest I am a little sceptical about this new story

it's a welcome news if it is true. but coming from a Philippine government whose only idea of income generation is by exporting it's citizens then i seriously doubt it.

another thing is..nurses are not included in the shortage list as far as i know.

Some nurses are on the list but have to be high up in management or very specialised in an area on the shortage list

All I can say is be very careful about this. Remember that this is the very same government office that also has repeatedly made posts about jobs opening for nurses in Japan, Spain, and other countries only to find that the job was not actually for an RN, but for that of a care-giver.

Find it hard that they think that 160 are going over quickly and in the role of the RN if the UK has not even issued licenses in quite sometime. You must be licensed thru the NMC before a facility can offer you a job and that is needed for the visa as an RN. And this is where they is going to be problems.

If it is true, then great. But I seriously doubt it as the only visas that the UK has open are for those that have significant work experience and are definitely a specialist in that area.

Be careful, doubt that this is going to be what it seems once again. And it is not a point of any of us here being negative, but the fact that none of these type of postings in the last year or two have been what they have posted about and no one went anywhere actually as an RN to the country that was being discussed.

How many years of experience can be considered significant? thanks

5 years plus of paid work experience in an area that they have a shortage in. This has been PICU and the NICU most recently. This is usually the rule of thumb on the amount of experience that one needs to have to be considered a specialist. One out of school for a year or two is most definitely not a specialist or should even consider themselves as one.

That is why I keep mentioning that it is going to be quite hard to actually meet the requirements that they are looking for.
