OK, so the rules have changed, and CPD is no longer enough.
I'm wondering about how to achieve the "reflective discussion" part when there are no UK registered nurses where I work.
So, all expat Brits, please let me know how you plan to maintain your NMC registration. Is anyone agreeable to contacting me, with a view to maybe planning an email/Skype discussion that we both can document?
I'm in Chicago btw, so if there are any other UK nurses here, we can meet in Panera instead : )
Hi Tomoko,
I am in Australia. Time difference- your evening is my mid morning. I am happy to complete the reflection if you cannot find anyone in NY.
Just as a note of interest to everyone undertaking revalidation when overseas. I decided at the last minute to revalidate for another 3 years(on the day it was due). I went on line and completed the extension request and got a two month extension in less than an hour. It can be difficult to find anyone to revalidate when you are overseas so this may be of help to those who are struggling.
Tracy,
Hi Tracy
Thank you so much for the quick response. I am actually in Tokyo for vacation till 1/19/2024. Time might be the same as where you live! Please let me know if you have a date and time that are convenient for you.
My email address is [email protected]
I will send the forms that I prepared for the revalidation, too.
Best,
Tomoko
Hi,
I am a German nurse. I have lived for 20 years in the UK. Among other things I have cared for my mother in law for 17 of those 20 years, but I have never worked in the profession in the UK. I had prepared my NMC registration as I wanted to start working in UK.
Now for some unfortunate circumstances I had to move back to Germany and I am currently working there as an Operating Theatre nurse in Nürnberg.
I would like to maintain my NMC registration in UK and for this I hope to find a NMC registered nurse that could help me with my revalidation due in April 2024 - mainly with the reflective discussion and sign off. I have tried many ways, but so far I could not find any nurse still registered with NMC. I also do not have any former colleagues in UK as I have never worked there.
Maybe somebody can help?
Hi Regina,
I can help with your reflective discussions. Your line manager can sign off on your hours and CPD. They do not need to be UKCC registered.
I am in Australia so the time difference will make it a little tricky.
If no one from your hemisphere volunteers feel free to email me.
Best wishes,
Tracy
Dear Tracy,
I have my paperwork, 5x feedback, 5x reflective accounts ready. I still need 7 hours CPD which I am doing online at the moment.
Since 1.6.23 I work full time here in Germany Nürnberg at the Klinikum Nürnberg Campus Nord central Operating theater. This is a department with 75 scrub nurses and approximately the same amount anesthesia nurses. I take part in Shift rota system.
Lots of CPD in German is done internally, no certificates are created as the hospital is providing monthly training sessions and is satisfied with my attendance. Germany does not have a NMC system. After education a nurse attends the mandatory training sessions offered by the hospital, no documentation needed as there is no authority like a NMC or Royal college one would report these things to. Supervision of further training is done by line managers only.
I am also hesitant to tell my German colleagues that I am working hard to maintain my Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration in UK. They worked hard to include me into the team and might think I am not committed to my work in Germany.
I do not want to loose my NMC registration because I want to keep my options open. My family still lives in UK (three grown up children) and I am here in Germany taking care of my 84 year old mother. There might be a time in the future where I will go back to UK and need to work there. If I lapse my NMC registration I would need to pass a test or attend a course at university. That does not sound as I can manage that.
I assume this chat is public. What would be the correct way to send to you my documents. I have no experience with forums and the correct way of contact.
I would be grateful if you could advise me there.
Many thanks for your offer to help. Have a nice day.
