UK nurses overseas - maintaining NMC registration

World UK

OK, so the rules have changed, and CPD is no longer enough.

I'm wondering about how to achieve the "reflective discussion" part when there are no UK registered nurses where I work.

So, all expat Brits, please let me know how you plan to maintain your NMC registration. Is anyone agreeable to contacting me, with a view to maybe planning an email/Skype discussion that we both can document?

I'm in Chicago btw, so if there are any other UK nurses here, we can meet in Panera instead : )

Janaelle, are you working as an RN in France?

If you meet the practice hours and do the CE, you should be eligible to renew. You just need to find an NMC registered nurse for the professional conversation and someone with professional qualifications, (not necessarily NMC if overseas) to sign off your application to renew.

Most of us overseas did the conversation via WhatsApp, or Skype, and then got our regular manager to sign it off.

Bonne chance!

Hi Skylark thank you very much for the reply. I meet the practice hours but what is CE please? Where could I find a nurse for the skype or WhatsApp conversation as I don't know where to search, I only know this website. Do you do it? And how to process please? Thank you, you give me my hope back again?! Best wishes! Merci beaucoup!

Yes I'm still working as a RN in France intil end of June, after I'll be in UK

Can someone help me to recover my pin number by doing skype or whatsapp conversation with me, please?? I'm blocked at the page 8 of the readmission process: NMC registrant referee and Authorised signatory referee . Thanks in advance for your precious help.

So you have done the study hours and the reflective study?

If you have all your study in order, the you can have the conversation, which is based on the reflective study.

Any of us here can help, either on WhatsApp or Skype.

I can do it, but not right now, I've signed up for a lot of overtime this week, but the first week of May I can do!

Also figure out who is going to sign it, its usually your current manager, as long as they have a professional, checkable qualification, it doesn't matter if its overseas. I'm in Chicago, and my manager here signed mine, using her Illinois nurse license.

OK but I found this on their website "NMC approved signatory list: An acceptable signatory should be a person in the United Kingdom who either: holds an active professional qualification (Category A); or provides a public service and is a ‘person of good standing in their community’ (Category B)", the good thing is it could be an nurse, but I also read that these 2 peoples ( NMC registrant referee and the Authorised signatory referee) must be different, so you can't do the both, and I'll have to find an other nurse to help me with this second part? Sorry it's hard to understand what they're asking sometimes.

Before my pin lapsed, I did 300 practice hours overseas and 800 hours in England, normally I meet the requierement, then? What is the study hours and reflective hours please?? I continued to be trained by my hospital training scheme. If we can do the conversation, May will be fine if you can do it for me!

Thanks again Skylark

This is the list of requirements, sorry my mistake, its not CE, its CPD, which is the same thing!

Once you have completed all the CPD and written your reflective accounts, then you have the conversation to discuss the accounts, what you learned from each and how it applies to your practice.

The person you have the discussion with signs the form and includes their PIN. What we have been doing on this site is talking online, and then the person signing prints off the form, signs it, and then mails it to you to include in your revalidation.

Encore, bonne chance!

Hi All

I am in a similar boat - I’m an English nurse in Australia and my UK registration is up in August. Happy to do a swap on the reflective part so we can sign each other off? Regards sarah jane

Hi Sara Jane,

Mine is due this October so we can sign off for each other.
Hilka

Thanks Hilka - that would be awesome. My email address is [email protected] if you would like to drop me a line? Looks like we both have a few months but would be good to lock this in! Cheers

OK OK I think I understood know. The CPD is it something to complete online or a certificate that I need to provide from my employer? Do CPD need to be done in UK or the trainings I had in France is valid? Where I should write my reflectives accounts? On the NMC website or on a sheet of paper?

Merci beaucoup!

PS: skylark Are you a French speaker ? ??

Je parle un peu de Francais!

The CPD can be mostly online study, but you do need to show that you have attended classes as well. It should give examples of classes that can be counted towards CPD.

You can write the reflective accounts about any aspect of your work that including learning.

Then the conversation is a discussion of those accounts.
