UK Nurse Registration Full Application and Assessment stage before OSCE

Published

Hi People

I am a UK born citizen trained in Australia hence I am going via the overseas trained route. I passed my CBT test and am in the full application and assessment stage.

I am interested in sharing information with people who are also in this stage of the application.

I commenced my application in 2013 under the old process which was rejected due to lack of clinical hours. I received a letter from NMC advising me of the new process. Like many people on this forum, this entire process has been long, drawnout, frustrating and tedious for me!!!!!!!

Hi!

may I ask when are you going to take the OSCE? @melchahussey

hi there...

did you take your osce already? are you in UK now? are you under any agency or you are applying by yourself? if by yourself, how will you take he osce?

I'm still in Phils. My agency haven't booked my OSCE yet. They will wait for me to arrive in the UK and take the exam within 3 months. As of now, I'm still waiiting for my COS..

My first submission of application was October 28th and the first review was on December 17 and I just got the 2nd reply yesterday. I already sent an email regarding my query. How long have you been waiting for feedback? Did you email them or call them already?

I submitted my documents December 16 and received feedback from them to resubmit something by December 27. I just waited for their email but I guess it is best to email or call them just to get an immediate answer.

hi alecxmab, may i know how long have you been waiting for your COS?

I've been waiting for the COS for a week now so that I can proceed with the visa processing.. :) Do you have your COS already?

Hi there! Can anyone give a rough timeframe from the start of the application process to deployment?

Hi.

Well it really depends on how fast you comply with all the requirements. Some of us here had a rough time obtaining a band score of 7 in IELTS yet alone the CBT. But the waiting games really begin when you start to send all the needed documents to NMC for the assessment with a maximum of 70 working days. My advice is that you have to be meticulous in filling up your documents so that there won't be any delays. You can check the previous threads here so you can really get a general picture of the entire process. If I'm not mistaken, most of us here had no really idea of the whole process. We just read the previous threads and help each other out.

Hope this helps. :)

Thank you alecxmab. I've just become a member, already I have had much help with my queries. Reading the threads, I realise the process takes much longer than I thought. I really have to look for work here while waiting. Otherwise I might end up unemployed for a long time. What is an estimate of how much I need to spend? Am I right that it's the the initial NMC assessment, IELTS fee and CBT? Is there other expenditure I have missed?

You're welcome. Yea, much better if you look for a job as of the moment because most agencies opt for applicants to have ongoing experience/employment. Well, to be honest, it's really expensive cause the CBT and assessment fee are all paid in pounds (£130 and £140 respectively (just check the internet to be sure coz I forget how much exactly)). There are agencies that will reimburse the IELTS and CBT. And there are employers as well that will fully fund your OSCE, work permit, COS, and air fare..

Hi alecxmab. Please bear with my questions. Any idea how strict are NMC about police clearance? My other problem apart from being jobless is I didn't get a police clearance when I left Dubai. I stayed/worked there three months only.

It seems like you really need to find work, not only to be eligible for application (as required by the companies who are hiring nurses for the UK), but also to help with the finances.

The costs really depends on your agency/ company. Most help with the expenses, others do not, still others shoulder everything.

Here are some of the things I paid for

Ielts review, ielts, cbt (all for reimbursement)

Application fee, medical exams, iom tb testing, visa app, plane ticket (all shouldered by the company)

Processing of the documents for the nmc (hospital, nbi, medical dr, school)

Hope this helps. :)

It's okay. If I'm not mistaken, you should have a police clearance in all the states/countries you have worked..
