Hi!
Good Day!
I would like to ask for your help badly. I'm currently enrolled on a Post Graduate school in the Philippines. Im taking Master of Arts in Nursing, and i have a subject called Comparative Nursing Practice. It's outline is to differentiate the philippine nursing practice into the nursing practices on different countries. My assigned report was based on UK nursing education. I've did work in UK but on a different field ( i worked as a mortgage officer in hsbc in UK)..
Can you please help me? I would like to ask the whole BSc or BSN nursing curriculum or subjects that a nursing student would take to have a degree in Nursing.
Example here in the Philippines:

The majority of the nurses that train in the UK complete three year programs, and they are not the same as the Bachelor's degree. The training is also quite different from your country, and even the US or Canada.
18 months is spent in general nursing and then 18 months as a specialist, and this means in peds/materal health, adult, or mental health. And then their license is specific to that area.

as suzanne says the Uk has branches of nursing
the common foundation programe is now 12 months giving 24 months in branch
the majority of Students in the Uk undertake Dip HE . advanced DipHE courses as this is what the DoH funding and bursaries is available for , although pre -reg bachelors and even pre-reg masters are available.
a dipHE is 2/3rds of the academic credit for a bachelors and 'advanced' DipHE are generally 5/6ths of the credit for a bachelors - meaning that you need to do one 20 credit module and your dissertation (40 credits) to get a bachelors degree with honours. individual course designs very between HEIs within those boundaries
theory and practice is integrated through the course with placement experiences beginning as early as 6 weeks into the course.
there is EU legislation which governs the amount of time that the course must consist of the overall time is at least 4600 hours of which 2300 must be spent in clinical practice - the average UK pre-reg student will be on placement for just shy of 800 hours a year

one side effect of increased student nurse enrolement is often practice and theroy of an area of nursing are not experinced concurrently.
this is because we go to work on wards 37.5/week were there is capacity so students in the same intake experinces different areas i was on a surgical ward when others were on medical rehab or even outpatients.
thank you suzane, zippy and ayla for reacting on my post... i would like to ask that.. a nursing student should undergo an 18 month general nursing.. but what are the subjects taken by students on that time frame.... Likewise , what subjects are also been taken by nurses to be trained as specialist for another 18 months... thank you very much guys and you have been a great help on my report.....

Universities will differ a bit on how their course is run. this will give you an idea on one university's programme http://www2.hud.ac.uk/courses/undergrad/0001163.php

Also take a look at this which gives a description of nurse training in the UK.
THe first 18 months is a foundation program rather than a general nursing program. It covers T an introduction to anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, communication, basic nursing skills and IT skills. The emphasis is on skills required by all nurses regardless of setting. Some universities also do multi-professional training and combine classes with other health care training.
After this 18 months, the branch programs begin these are in:
Mental Health Nursing
Learning disabilities Nursing
General Nursing
Paediatric nursing
