UIC Graduate Entry Program

Published

Hi folks,

Thinking about applying to UIC's GEP program. Anybody here applied and was accepted? What were your stats?

My stats: 3.2 Overall GPA/3.5 Sci BA in Sociology. Office Manager in home health care, tech in a medical equipment co, medical assistant (no cert) in dr's office and later office manager there. Volunteering in Nursing Home around 120 hours...

From what I can tell on their website, after completing the NCLEX, you immediately start the master portion of the program. Is this correct?

If the class isn't a pre-req, I don't see how dropping would affect your chance of being admitted. But if you drop, I assume you might have to take the class over which would prevent you from completing your BS degree and thus prevent you from being admitted?

Hi, everyone!

I'm new to this board - applying for the PNP track - and so far it's been really nice to read everyone's input and stories. I experienced many of the same nerve-wracking frustrations!! Crossing my fingers for us... Here's to our collective success :).

Anyone else hoping the next couple of weeks fly by until our possible interview notifications??? Yikes!

I feel like there is more to this FNP thing than they want us to know about. Like you guys say, it really doesn't make sense for them to completely eliminate it. I wasn't even thinking about the fact that we aren't taking specialty classes for the first 15 months. I'm not going to be naive and pretend I know how a major university functions, but I would feel like fifteen months (actually more than that it this point because the program hasn't even started) would give them time to add new faculty or accommodate a decreased cohort size.

Mind sharing your reasons for choosing PNP with me? I am considering that as my secondary specialty and would like to hear some other perspectives.

Thanks for the input @hi.

Sitten- I already took a higher level o chem and I don't know why I signed up for this baby o chem. I just wanted to brush up on my skills but now I don't feel so strongly about it. Lol fortunately it doesn't affect my major or graduation requirements :)

Thanks guys!!

Of course! I'm so sorry to hear about the FNP fiasco. PNP seems to be the natural alternative. I have a BFA in theatre from Columbia College (2009) and after college I got a job teaching preschool full time to support my acting career (theatre majors in general seem to have a history of working with children in some capacity). Though I love kids, I really don't like teaching preschool and still want to care for children. The medical field has always been a big passion of mine, even with my performance career goals.

Wow. I really rambled on... Sorry! Hope that's helpful??

clbrand-Thanks!

FYI, they will refund app fees for FNP applicants for anyone that wants to withdraw.

I guess it is what it is, just going to have to accept that. Pick whatever specialty you think would be the best for you and look at other schools as back up if your heart is set on FNP. Not the best timing in the world, but everything happens for a reason right?! lol trying to make myself feel better :)

So how sure are we about the whole group interview? Because I was going through a UIC GEP thread from not too long ago and one of the users mentioned about getting one on one. Take a look at this thread (last comment: https://allnurses.com/post-graduate-nursing/ui-chicago-gep-526964-page13.html

I haven't read anything about group interviews either. I've been searching the UIC GEP website for a couple days to see if I can find anything about the interviews and I haven't found anything. Nothing was said about group interviews at the information session either. If you don't mind me asking, where did you learn about the group interviews?

Thanks, but what I meant was, did UIC actually say that there are group interviews or did someone assume this? I just want to know if that information came from an official UIC source, because the sound of group interviews is kind of nerve-racking!
