Published

Hi everyone! I'll be applying to UH Sugarland's second degree bsn program this upcoming spring. I have a bachelors in Biology. I would love to hear from others who are applying as well. Best of luck!

Same here! Took A&P back in 2015 and I’m kinda worried for that section? How are you studying for it? Is it worth spending $50 on the practice test?

I'm using a combination of Prenursing Smarter (online program, relatively unheard of but I love it) and Mometrix University (online version of the Mometrix book - I checked in B&N this weekend and the text from the lessons is identical). I'm also taking A&P 2 this Summer so that should help (forgot to take the lab while at UH).

Hi all! I am interested in this program for the future. I have a couple of questions that might seem stupid (just overwhelmed). I was wondering when the ideal time is to apply for the program? When to take the TEAS? I also would like to know when some of yall applied and what other things are needed for the application. Thank you in advance, wish you all the best! ?

No such thing as a stupid question - we're all in this together. The program admits once a year for a January start, so if you don't get everything done by August 15th, you'll have to wait until 2022. You need to take the TEAS prior to this deadline. I would sign up ASAP since spots are limited because not all test centers in Houston are open yet. In terms of what's needed, NursingCAS will walk you through it.

Im stressing about the science! I have both books you mentioned and Im watching you tube videos for each body system. Which apps did you use?

I used the ATI TEAS pocket prep and just ATI TEAS. One is red and the other is blue.

Hey everyone!

I'm also applying to this program for Spring 2021. I'm taking the TEAS in about 2 weeks through the online proctor. ? If you haven't already, I would suggest going to a virtual information session. It was really helpful and they answer any program admission questions you have.

Hey everyone! I am also applying for the Spring 2021 cohort. I am excited to meet all of you future nurses. I am dropping the link for the thread from last Spring as there is a lot of helpful information about:

-when you should expect to hear back

-GPA's and TEAS scores

-what it means to be invited for an interview

Good luck to everyone.

Hey, everyone! Those who have taken the TEAS, how’d it go for you? I took mine today (I scored an 86) and am wondering if I may have taken the wrong one? I took the ATI online proctor since testing centers are currently closed due to COVID-19. Im just confused because I purchased the whole ATI study bundle with the manual, online assesments and online study, yet I did not recall many of the science questions I recieved.

When I took my TEAS, I noticed that the study book I had didn't go nearly as in-depth or seem to cover as much as the test asked for. Thankfully I did well, but I studied with the sixth edition study guide for 6 weeks and still didn't feel prepared for the science section.

Hello everyone!,

I also applied for the 2nd degree BSN program at UH for Spring 2021. Currently waiting for NursingCas to verify my application before it is sent to UH! I have a bachelors degree in Biology and Criminal Justice with a minor in Forensic Science! Hoping my degree, TEAS scores, and healthcare experience makes me a competitive applicant! I took the TEAS 2 weeks ago so if anyone has any questions or wants to vent about it I am here for you! I wish everyone good luck this application cycle and hopefully we get to see each other in late September for an interview!

Hello! I obtained my bachelors in Health from UH in May 2018! I am a bit nervous and was actually wondering if we could apply to the traditional as well?

Not sure if anyone answered you already, but the traditional program is for first time in college students. At that, they only allow 15 hours of transfer credit for the program. You have to start at UH as a freshman and change your major once you complete the pre-reqs. ?

I took my TEAS on the 17th at a PSI Center and my scores got posted last night. I got a 91.3% overall. I think the science section was fairly balanced and in line with what I expected. The three-page score report will list out the sections you need improvement on (I mixed up hypodermis and stratum basale for integumentary system, and my feedback was to review the integumentary system on the second page of my score report). I had just taken A&P 2 at Lone Star because I needed the lab and didn't take it when I was at UH so I had to do it all again.

I used the Kaplan ATI TEAS QBank ($39 for 1 month) to prep for the science section a few days beforehand, and found it to be right on par with the types of questions the test asked and helped me cram in a short period of time. I needed the most review for A&P 1 and experimental design (independent and dependent variables, etc).

Thank you @Katecantu97 for your reply. I had the same study guide and spent four weeks on studying science. I’m glad you still scored high, that’s awesome!

@littlewarrior7410congratulations!! Thank you for sharing your study material. For future reference, Kaplan might be the better choice for the science section.

There is a virtual open house today from 3:30PM to 4:30PM for the Second Degree BSN program. I'll try to take notes for those who cannot attend! I signed up this morning on the College of Nursing website, and they send you a Zoom link.
