uh oh- the drama begins.....

Nursing Students General Students

Published

I have been reading posts here for a while now and I decided to post:)

I am in my first semester in the ADN program and like for everyone else, I found it to be a huge accomplishment and a blessing to get in. I am slightly older than the other students, and I tend to mingle with all types of people comfortably. However, I am in such disbelief of the "high school drama "I find myself surrounded by.

We are getting close to the end of the first semester and everyone has paired off into groups. Everyone watches each other and it seems many try to out do each other. I feel like I am on 'Survivor': outwit, outlast, outplay ........ I find being around these catty, immature, snobby, "everything is handed to me because I'm beautiful," people extremely draining..................:icon_roll

( is it just here??)

The plus side is that it makes students like me look really, really good by comparison!

I know, right? :D

I also get bugged when people are disrespectful to our teacher. I just don't get it. Some day, she may be writing a letter of recommendation for a job or grad school.

Yeah, some students have this attitude that they are a "customer" and they need to always be right. "I'm paying her salary!" they'll say. Sorry, it doesn't work that way!

Yes If you dont indulge in the mess, you'll be better off.

Most of my classmates are older. A few teenagers.

What I dont get is the talking.. Blah blah blah blah x 10 to 1millionth power!

Well due to the talking.. key points were missed for a test. Boy o Boy.. Folks were heated.. This shall too pass!

OP, I don't think Intern67 was trying to be rude or judgemental--It just sounded like they were saying what gets them through it is to not participate and just observe.

I definitely understand where you're coming from--My facebook status right now says "There are some disadvantages to nurisng school---working with 49 other type A students. :P"

I think there is drama everywhere you go, especially somewhere like nursing school with all the different personalities and the close proximity you have to be in for many hours. and most especially because most of the students are women.

I'm not sure if my ADN program is the exception, but we hardly have any young people. I'd say about 85 percent of our nursing students are returning students who have kids about my age. In my experience some of these are the most dramatic of all. They are most definitely the ones who always have to "one up" you or top your story or question with one of their own. They also will intentionally throw another student under the bus to make themselves look better. I'm not saying that us younger students are perfect, just that I definitely get that nursing school can mirror highschool in some ways.

I didnt come to nursing school to make friends, obviously, but I do like to get along with all my classmates, and feel comfortable enough with them to ask them questions or get their opinions on things. Sometimes its just not possible and you just have to lay low.

I have the same "drama queens" in my class. ******** about each other, catty remarks, rumours...and these women are in there 30s ! You'd think they would have grown out of that immature rubbish by now. I have found the teenagers in my class to be the most mature !! ;)

I just ignore it and keep to myself. My grades, my life, is my business. Im not here to play mind games and socialise...I'm here to learn.
