Hey everyone,
I will be attending the nursing program in the Fall and was wondering if anyone that will be attending has signed up for their classes yet and if so which clinical did you choose? I would like to get to know my future fellow classmates before classes actually start.
Hey guys! I will be starting in the fall as well. I chose the clinical section that included QMC. So far all I have purchased is 2 polos and 2 scrub tops. I'm slowly working on figuring out where I'm gonna buy everything else from. Do you guys know which stethoscope you plan on getting? I didn't see any specific models mentioned on the supply list. Have you heard anything about that? I have seen posts on here in the past mention that UHM required Littmann cardiology III's, but that was back in 2011 so I'm not sure if that's the case anymore. I'm torn between the new Littmann classic III and the cardiology III.
Hi kas53! I'll be in your group at QMC :) How long ago did you get your scrubs and polos? I still need to get mine but I want to wait until our textbooks and other supplies are ready to be purchased so that I can hopefully make a one stop shop. Does the bookstore only sell the scrub tops and not the bottoms? Michael mentioned that the current nurses are going to have a fundraiser and that we can purchase stethoscopes from them but I dont know what brand they'll be...I wonder if they'll be selling some of the other supplies too???
Yay! I'm glad to be meeting some people from our class. It's been a little lonely since I got my letter, haha. I grabbed my polos and scrub tops in mid May a few days after my meeting. They do sell the scrub pants at the bookstore. I actually bought 2 pairs but they were a little too long on me. I called the office and was told it was okay to get any brand as long as they were the right color, so I'm planning on ordering some with a shorter inseam from amazon soon here. I went back less than a week after I had bought everything to return the pants and they had completely revamped and organized the whole section where they keep the nursing uniforms. They seemed to have a decent amount of the white scrub tops but at that time they only had a few polos in each size. It did sound like the fundraiser might include some of the other supplies on our list. I haven't had a chance to check out the pricing on the textbook bundle to see which is the best way to go. I tried looking on the bookstore website but they are currently only selling for summer courses.
Kas53, would you mind sharing a little bit about yourself? As you probably have previously read, my name is Lisa...I am a mother to a 3 year old boy who keeps me on my toes haha!!! I quit my job after giving birth to my son so that I could focus on raising him and focus on going to school. My inspiration to become a nurse actually developed from my experience at Kapiolani Hospital while giving birth to my son. I had a great experience there and hope that I can provide that experience for another person. I have no previous healthcare experience other than a position as a phlebotomist for a couple a years and working in the animal healthcare field for over seven years. I look forward to meeting you and taking this exciting journey with you over the next couple of years haha!
Sure :) My name is Kylie. I have two little girls. They are 5 and 7. Nursing has been a lifelong dream for me, but my motivation kicked into overdrive when my youngest was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when she was 3. In addition to working as a nurse, I'm hoping to become a Certified Diabetes Educator. As far as experience goes, I completed a CNA program last summer and got my license, but haven't worked as one yet. And of course, having a diabetic child has taught me a whole lot!
I was debating whether or not I should take CNA classes over the summer before the program starts but when I mentioned it to Michael he said after our first year in the program, we'll be able to work in CNA positions and so I should just save my money. I've already finished PHARM and STATS so second and third semester I'll only be enrolled part time so I plan to work as a CNA somewhere.

i have a couple years experience as a phlebotomist and about 10 years experience in animal medicine, which can be pretty similar to human medicine lol but no experience in direct human patient care. I'm excited and nervous at the same time about starting the nursing program!
