I was wondering how much new grads make anually with a BSN in nursing...?

I am pregnant with my first child, applying to colleges, & I need to choose a major in the health field that I enjoy that will also bring a good amount of money home...

I was also considering physical therapy, but I don't think they are as in demand as nurses...

so, how much money do new rns make? i was planning on working in the surgical unit,or the intensive care unit

OctoberBride, I'm 17 years old. I'm not old like you.

OK, now that you've referred to a 24-year old poster as "old" ... you've annoyed me too.

I'll give you a piece of advice, although coming from 41-year old me you'll probably consider it the voice from the crypt. Focus on this pregnancy and delivering a healthy infant. Adjust to motherhood. It's not easy. You have the rest of your life to do it all, but you just cannot do it all at the same time.

Amen Altra. And may I add the advice not to **** where you eat? You repeatedly come to US asking for advice. Be careful who you refer to as old and be careful who you insult. It's a small world around here.

So I guess we should do volunteer work and not worry about money. Why do people act like nurses are rich?Everyone would like to live comfortably and if someone comes to this board asking about salary, why make a big deal out of it? It is an open forum to ask a specific question and all the OP wanted was an answer to it.

Thank you, akanini!

I ALWAYS ask about money. Nurses always get SO freaking bitter everytime they are asked on this board. I'm sure many of you only make about $55,000 annually. I just wanted someone to tell me specifically/personally.

I honestly have an interest in a career BEFORE i ask about the god damn money...

Have you talked to your high school counselor or a college advisor about college options/degree paths and scholorships for after your baby is born?

If you are sure that everyone here is making $55K annually, then why have you asked multiple times what everyone is making?

Salaries vary tremendously.

You have been referred multiple times to salary.com, hospitals in your area, and other resources where you can get meaningful salary estimates for your area. To come here and take a "poll" accomplishes nothing -- what I make in my area or what someone else makes on the other side of the country is meaningless for you in your situation.

You're now making comments such as "only make $55,000 annually." Is it your intention to offend those who may actually be making $55K or less? Do you have any comprehension of how to ask questions and obtain information without inserting your own expectations or opinons into the question?

Take it from this NURSE who is not bitter, or old ... you've got a LOT of growing up to do, honey.

Agreed. And when you're struggling as a single parent to raise that baby (I assume you're not married at 17, please correct me if I'm wrong) you'll realize how far that $55,000 could really go.

very mean indeed, my god she is 17 for christ sake's. when i was her age i didn't know what the heck i wanted to do. this forum is for support, and i felt that what you posted was very mean. at least she does have some good fields she is looking in to. let's continue to support one another even if someone's post is annoying.

Lunden, take a look at her post history and then it will be clearer. Sometimes reality is harsh.

I'm sorry you feel that way, lunden.

When I was 17, I didn't know squat about the world & how it worked.

I did, however, have the good manners I was raised with to avoid needlessly provoking adults with judgemental comments implying that some certain salary level was acceptable or unacceptable. It would have been illogical to do so, when I could not possibly comprehend all the complexities of adult life.

I also wasn't imminently about to take on the responsibility of being a parent to another human being. The OP would do well to recognize that she is in the unfortunate position of needing all the experienced help she can get, and she won't get that through antagonism.

I completly agree. Some of these replies have been very mean. If the OP gets on your nerves, DON'T REPLY. Jeez, she 17, pregnant, probably scared, (I know I was) and trying to get info from multiple sources. I kinda understand that saying about nurses eating their young now.
