Ugh, Chemistry..

This is more of a vent than anything else, because I know you all will understand.

But I've been busting my butt in chemistry, I get A's on everything(95%-100%), but when I take my exams.. I get 80%-85%. Now of course, these are worth most of my grade. Well, my instructor does the A- system(so a 3.7 GPA instead of 4.0), and I'm so paranoid. As it stands, even if I get 100% on everything, I'd have to get 100% on the final to get above a 93% which would be her 4.0. I'm already feeling tapped out as it is. I have a 92 right now, but it will drop after the next 2 exams.

Where I live, it is extremely competitive. They go off a point system, and most times unless you have at least 18/19 points; you're not getting in.

This class has kind of made me wonder if I should really continue to pursue nursing, since it is SO difficult, and I'm not sure how else to push myself. I study so much, I never am with my kids, I never do anything but study, and homework.

Are all the other pre reqs(AP 1, AP 2, Micro) like this?

Don't let chemistry make you think you are not cut out for nursing. Chemistry is a very tough subject & I applaud you for doing as well as you currently are. I have taken chemistry, both A & P 1 & 2, and microbiology. Chemistry was the hardest for me & the least interesting. Keep working hard & apply to the nursing program. An A- is still a very good grade.

Hello,

I don't know which Chemistry you're taking, but in Florida I was able to squeeze by with Introduction to Chemistry. I didn't like it either, but made it through. As for me, Microbiology was the most difficult class of my pre-requisites. My advice is to pace yourself with these classes.

Nursing school is going to be more difficult than this, but it's all worth it!

I'm taking general chemistry. It's an 8 week summer course.

I am in the EXACT same situation! 8 week summer course, 95-100% on everything but 80's on tests, A- system threatening to mess up my 4.0... It is SOOOOOO stressful it's not even funny! BUT, don't make this class question your nursing ability. A&P is much easier and I honestly feel that everything I know about chemistry, I learned in A&P. Chem is not interesting and my professor is TERRIBLE.

We will both get through this semester soon :)

Thank you. I'm glad to know I'm not alone in that. It sucks so much. I wanted to have a little more flexibility in other classes. Of course, my AP class, is filling up now. :/ 8 spots left for the last month and a half, and now it's down to six in a day! I'm excited for AP honestly..lol
