UF Accelerated BSN, Summer 2018

U.S.A. Florida

Hi all!

It's pretty early on but I'd love to meet and chat with the potential applicants for this program. I also think it'd be great to have this forum in case we stumble upon application questions and such. Maybe some successful applicants in the past may pop in to say hello as well!

What are your feelings about this program or even UF in general? Are you applying to other programs? Where are you from?

are you guys still able to see your application on nursingcas?

I can't find how to see the app itself, but I see it under the Check Status.

To be honest, I advise you all to think carefully before committing into this program. Speaking from experience, they do not care about you or your education. The professors do not prepare you enough to pass your NCLEX, and you WILL have to do something like uWorld NCLEX guide to pass the license exam. Their HESI exam is totally a joke and is not a reflection of real NCLEX exam. And you will not be able to graduate if you fail your HESI exit exam. There is no way to even be properly prepared for the HESI examination, as they say that it will only test you on information from classes you've learned. However, we were tested on both public health and psych nursing during our mid curricular (2nd semester) HESI, while those are both 3rd semester courses.

74 is your passing grade, and they will kick you out of the program if you miss even for by 0.5%. So you have to study really hard by yourself.

If you really want to go to UF, choose Gainesville campus. Not Jacksonville campus because like what I mentioned previously, they are experimenting on their curriculum thus screwing all the Jacksonville students. Regardless of campus, there is no communication between administration, professors, and students. Often, we have multiple exercises planned by different professors at the same exact time. We had THREE different things we were supposed to be present for this week, all at the same time. How does that kind of oversight even occur? Lack of communication. We were not told about night clinical until the week before they happened, and only one professor knew. And that professor was not even our clinical coordinator, who also was not aware. Be aware that the administration people only came to Jacksonville campus last semester twice only after we expressed our concerns about the program. Without that, you will never see them around.

And do not get me wrong. I love UF, I graduated from UF with my 1st Bachelors. I am not saying all this because I am failing, my nursing GPA is greater than 3.0.

If you know anyone in the accelerated program, talk to them and ask for their experiences. Note that this is for accelerated program, because traditional program is very different. I figure that you all probably want to know how the culture is and what we are currently encountering before you decide to commit to this program. This upcoming new cohort might experience something better or you might not. Worse case scenario, it will be the same with what we are experiencing. If they make any differences, you all will be in much better experience than us.

Ask if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you so much for your feedback! It's nice to actually hear about some of the negative sides, so if accepted we are not completely blindsided. I personally don't know anyone at UF in the ABSN, but I do know students at other schools who are in their ABSNs that have actually stated similar experiences. My only hope is that the programs become better with each semester and cohort.

I went through some similar experiences in my graduate program but I don't even think that compares to what some of the nursing students have been put through and no-one should go in expecting not to be challenged! Thanks again for your input, it helps those of us who don't have any friends in the program yet. :-)

Just a reminder everyone: Assessments are due by the 13th. So if you haven't done it, now's the time.

Hey all, I am a current student in the ABSN at UF on the Gainesville campus and just thought Id check up on this website since I was scanning it during my application process. My "stats" were I graduated from UF, overall GPA 3.6, upper division GPA 3.8, unsure what my pre-req GPA was, but it definitely was NOT a 4.0. My advice is to not worry so much about getting in right now, just relax and whatever is meant to be will be. I was wait listed and here I am in the 3rd semester with just under 7 months left until graduation. If you do get in and decide to accept admission realize that while this is an undergrad degree, much more will be expected of you than what was expected in your first undergrad degree. There will be no hand-holding, it will be challenging in all aspects (mentally, physically, emotionally) so be prepared. Good luck to all of you, and again, try not to stress yourselves too much. I can try to answer any questions, should you have any.

For people currently in the ABSN How many men are in the program it seems like there are very few other male applicants

There are 6 guys in my program in Jax, I am not sure about Gainesville. Probably about the same amount.

Gainesville started with 6 guys and has 5 now.

So as a guy are those numbers a good or bad thing? Do you think the program will give any preference to male applicants? "Crosses fingers"

Does anyone know the next step after personality assessments ?

I think after the assessment is the decision
