2010 - UCSF / Stanford RN Residency Interview?

U.S.A. California

Published

Hey,

I applied for RN residencies at both UCSF and Stanford during the week of May 10th, 2010. I wanted to hear from anyone who has applied to either program AND has been contacted by a recruiter. Or from anyone who knows for certain (i.e., you work there) when theses decisions will be made. I am a fairly strong candidate and would like to believe I am in the running for a position--but who knows really? I will post if and when I hear anything.

Best of luck.

Congrats SoldierofLove! I applied but didn't get any interviews. I just graduated in May from a South Bay university. Do you have any suggestions as to how to stick out among the application pool? I'm getting so discouraged!

Try not to get too discouraged just use it as another thing to make you try even harder to prove everyone wrong. I graduated in march and I made it a point that my old preceptors from my senior practicum clinical knew I wanted to work at that hospital. Sometimes that word can be passed on to the managers if they haven't met you already. I think that networking is what helped me get my two of my three job offers. Standing out in your resume helps with your additional certifications but rocking in your interview is where it really matters since all of our resumes probably look similiar.

Wish you all luck.

@SoldierofLove Thanks for the fast response! Did you have any other nursing experience, such as CNA work?

No CNA background but I have a few years as an oral surgeon assistant and a lot of volunteer work in hospitals and in the community.

SoldierofLove, do you have a BSN or and MSN? I am starting nursing school this Fall (ADN program), so I am just wondering if that will play a role when looking for a job in a couple of years. Thanks for all of the info!

I have a BSN. Nursing was my first and only major in college. In a couple of years I think its safe to say that we will be seeing an upward trend with nursing jobs. I feel we hit the bottom of the curve the past 2-3 years.

^ I agree. Right now many of the new grad programs are requiring that you have at least a BSN to be eligible for the program. I have a feeling as things start to turn around and new grads are hired more and more, that those restrictions will loosen up again. Although, there are some hospitals that are phasing out the hiring of ADN nurses, but i don't know how long that will last...

Thanks, everyone. I am starting College of Marin in the Fall. I was concerned at first that it's an ADN program, but I just can't pass it up. I applied to USF's Masters Entry program for this past Spring, but I only got on the waitlist and did not get in eventually. It was also $70,000, so I wasn't heartbroken. I have a BA, and am aware that it means nothing b/c it's not a BSN. I know I will have to do more than the ADN, but I also felt that I couldn't get an MSN without having been a nurse yet also. Anyway, I am just thinking out loud. Thanks for the advice!

Has anyone been contacted for a panel interview at Stanford/LPCH?

mine is scheduled for next week

Northbay - I applied to both programs but during my phone interview had to choose only one so I went with adult. Both of my applications are still "in review,"and I have not been contacted.

linRdsNay - Whom is your interview with? Also if you happened to apply to both, do you mind sharing what your application statuses are (had to look the plural--up thought it might be stati!)? Good luck next week, let us know how it goes!

Anyone else in the same boat as me?

Thanks!

I was invited to a panel interview this coming week, but I am turning it down. I was torn between UCLA and Stanford, so it came down to academics. Stanford offers $1,000/academic year in tuition reimbursement while UCLA offers a 2/3 reduction ($9,422 paid!). Since I'm planning on getting a Masters in the next few years, UCLA it is. Final decision-made! :yeah:

No idea who my interview is with. Since it's a panel interview, I'm assuming it'll be a few people on their end. I only applied to LPCH because I'm more interested in working in Pediatrics. My status says "application in review".
