UCSF RN Residency 2011

U.S.A. California

Hi!

Just wanna start this thread about UCSF RN Residency 2011. For those who applied, have you heard anything back?

Thanks!

what is that? can you explain more little bit about it.

I applied to several positions but nothing back yet. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Specializes in Couplet Care/Newborn Nursery.

I applied as well but have heard nothing.

Specializes in Tele Step Down, Oncology, ICU, Med/Surg.

I interviewed for a new grad surgical oncology position several months back--fell in love with UCSF (it was the Mt Zion campus where I had been born!). Impressed with the educator and all the clinical resources available to the nurses there. I am very happy where I've landed, but I've taken some of the nursing oncology classes at UCSF and remain envious of the knowledge base available to the UCSF nurses. What a wonderful way to start out as a new grad RN! I came close but didn't get the job. The interviewers were very nice tho. Hope you do better than I did--good luck to you.

I recieved a call yesterday for an interview in Perinatal services! I know one other person who has gotten a call for an interview as well, I am not sure which unit- I think Pediatrics.

Testa Rosa,

My interview is with a different department than yours but I am just wondering what type of interview it is? I had a panel interview at Stanford and it was behavioral. I am interviewing with the Nurse Manager and CNS and maybe one other person. If you have any idea on what kind of interview it might be that would be great!

Yay! I received an email today regarding the interview! I am nervous & excited. I have absolutely no idea how their interviews are like (types of qs, behavioral, clinical etc.) some tips/suggestions are much appreciated :) thanks!

@Annalyn.Victoria: when is your interview? & which unit is your friend going to be interviewed with? Good luck to us!

I too interviewed with the nurse manager, CNS and nurse educator--three people total. They were oncology nurses so your group will be different than mine, however I must say they were very nice and tried to put me at ease. It was held at the Mt Zion campus in an obscure, hard to find meeting room. I think I was the last interview of the day so the floor was empty and I was unsure if I was in the right place so a couple minutes after my set interview time I opened the door and peeked in to see another interview going on (felt bad about that and would advise just listening at the door to verify if you find yourself in the same position).

The interview was fairly typical--starting with basic interview questions you would expect, a couple personality conflict questions too, and a couple "tell me about some of your more interesting clinical experiences" questions, but then ending with several scenario based questions. Cant remember which ones anymore but they were fairly involved and got the feeling that there was a definite wrong answer but they were helpful in pointing me in the right direction by adding more info to the scenario so I felt like I got where they were going and what answer they were looking for. The interview was only 40 minutes max, maybe even less--can't remember now, but you want your answers to be brief and to the point.

I would type up some of your more basic answers so you are ready to provide brief, relevant replies. I also had prepared handouts for each person with my resume, letters of recommendation, copies of my transcripts and licenses/certifications. And I referred to my handout when answering questions, "as you can see in my resume..." or "as you can see in my letter of recommendation from....." I don't know if this helped or not as I didn't get the job, but I did follow up with an email after and was told I was one of the top candidates they considered (who knows tho, maybe they were just trying to make me feel good--LOL!).

I think they are looking for intelligent good people that will fit in well with their current unit and that they respect prior life experience and diversity. While I am very happy where I landed, I would have loved working there and feel honored I got that close. Good luck everyone--I know it's a great place to work!

Thanks for the great information re: the interview process! I really appreciate it.

I was contacted yesterday for an interview next week on the transplant unit. What other units have contacted applicants so far for interviews?

Specializes in Hospice/Palliative care.

Got your PM,but I don't think I've made enough posts to get PM capabilities yet. Anyway, hopefully this will help go towards that. Here's some info my friend who was hired in the PICU's new grad program a few years ago gave me:

Most interviews will be with the unit manager/ assistant manager / & senior nurse.

They will probably give you case study type clinical questions. Also review back on your clinical experience. They will also probably be big on communication/ compassion/ family centered care.

I just finished flying out to D.C. for an interview. I'm in the same boat, graduated 2010 but I have a feeling that this is my year! Be it here (my preference) or a new adventure into D.C. land I'm ready to take it on. You got an interview at Loma Linda correct? I got a call from the nurse recruiter a week after the deadline when I submitted an application for a clinical nurse b position telling me that she was very interested in my application and even though the deadline had already passed would like to offer me the opportunity to apply to the new grad program. When I told her I already had, she seemed pleased so I was very surprised when I received an email that I couldn't even get an interview.

When is your interview? Do you have a place to stay while you're up here? I'd offer my place (I owe so much to people I know because of the internet who have given me a place to stay) but only if you bring a sleeping bag because at the moment I don't even have a couch :X

Thanks Veganurse!! I'm gonna anticipate that there will be a case study type qs. Also thanks for the offer, Im staying at a friend's house.it's on Friday, when's yours?! Maybe I'll run into ya!

& no I haven't heard from loma Linda ever since they sent me an email that my app is forwarded to the manager.

Good luck, I share the same mentality about this being the year, no matter where I land I am up for it :)
