UCSF New Grad Program 2023 Questions

Updated:   Published

Hello all,

I am at the last semester of the ABSN program at Samuel Merritt. I'm expecting to graduate in early Jan and plan to take the NCLEX early Feb and no later than late Feb. I would like to know the timeline for applying to UCSF's nursing new grad Spring program 2023. Any past experiences with UCSF to share will be greatly appreciated.

question to people who have had their unit interview already. did the managers say how many people they were hiring?

I know that ICN is hiring 6

Not for the unit that I interviewed with. 6 seems a lot to me and will say it is a pretty good chance. Do you by chance know out of how many candidates they are selecting from?

I believe I interviewed with the same unit! They have not reached out to me just yet and I am aware that a few more people from this forum also have interviewed with the unit as well not sure if they heard back tho.

For me it was 3 units all together including the adult med surg unit so I felt a bit overwhelming LOL but I hope they select multiple individuals! I will keep it posted here and hope we all get jobs we wanted ?

OMG 3 units all together?? That's freaking awesome good for you!! I have one of those next week but I don't think it's three units competing for me I think the job is like 3 separate units.....

My interview was just the med surg unit. Im honestly so curious now if it was the same unit LOL

It was only med surg but they added 2 departments (units) at the last minute dunno how that happened LOL the director in the beginning explained that other departments got interested and decided to join last minute. I am sure it is the same unit because the staffs were very nice and welcoming. It was heartwarming unit and I wanted to work there solely for that reason ?

Good luck with the remaining interviews! I know according to the university's timeline, it is just yet too early to say the references will be requested.

Department Interviews: February 6th – February 24th (We are here)

References Requested: Week of February 20th

But you got that skillsurvey early and I am so happy for you! If I get into the same unit LOL I will lyk and we will meet at UCSF!

Aw good luck to you too. I honestly hope everyone in this thread gets an offer. We are all so capable and deserving of not just one offer but multiple offers. I've heard from previous threads that multiple units can send you offers! Literally wishing you and everyone else who reads this the best. I'll keep everyone updated as well.

Okay nvm... 6 out of 50 is not a good chance LOL I take that back.... that's literally 10% of candidates... I thought they were interviewing like 15-20 candidates. I wonder how many candidates other units have interviewed and willing to take.

Has anyone reach out to HR regarding this matter? If so, did they respond back with some numbers?

50 candidates per unit? I doubt that it's 50 per unit.... maybe some units might have more than others. I guess I have no idea but 50 seems like a lot. Also @bluebonnet check your inbox!!

It's 50 for ICN. They mentioned it in the email

From past experience I don't feel like worrying about % of getting the position is worth it. Being obsessive about chances and numbers is gonna stress you out even more. I was like that with Stanford and I made it to final rounds just to be rejected. At the end of the day just do your best and don't worry bc if things don't work out you're gonna be upset

Ah I remember receiving that email from Stanford... I was in same shoes and I totally understand what you are saying LOL. Yes! Let's stay hopeful til the end since we don't know what UCSF is thinking! But I will be so glad to hear more people getting good news.

It makes me feel super excited hearing those news and thinking about meeting with other new grads at orientation is something I am looking forward to! It will be so much joy and fun! ?

How did it go?! If you don't mind me asking, was it also a panel and for how long?

It went well! I was the only candidate that interview but there were 5 staff nurses interviewing me in the first interview and then 4 managers in the second interview.

I feel like the PICU sent out their invites already
