UCSF New Grad Program 2023 Questions

Updated:   Published

Hello all,

I am at the last semester of the ABSN program at Samuel Merritt. I'm expecting to graduate in early Jan and plan to take the NCLEX early Feb and no later than late Feb. I would like to know the timeline for applying to UCSF's nursing new grad Spring program 2023. Any past experiences with UCSF to share will be greatly appreciated.

Whoever is thinking of being considered into Adult ED- do you know if this means you won't be considered for other units? I want to ask but I'm not sure if asking would be OK since they said to only respond if interested.

I replied to be interviewed for Adult ED. I don't think that means that you won't be considered for other units. I think they just added the ED because they need people. I think it would be OK to ask though.

I know someone that was contact by Surgical today.. nothing for PACU.  Was that even an option when we applied? Or would you get called if you applied to ICU?

PACU was an option! Would ED now fall under Adult Critical?

Peds Heme/Onc just called me to set up an interview for next week!

Feeling super nervous for ICN interviews!! If anyone wants to talk through prep/share anxiety feel free to message me LOL

I'm pretty positive it would, but I think even if you didn't choose Adult Critical and responded to her email you would be in the pool?  Unless only Adult Critical was emailed?  That I don't know.

For the ICN I am a bit confused about how to know if they are aware that we have RSVP'd for our interview slot??

You have to respond to the email and let them know!

Has anyone heard from adult ambulatory?

also anyone have interviews with more than one department?

Specializes in ICU/Med-Surg.

There can be multiple panels, or just one panel (According to someone mentioned from their own interview experience). I think its all unit dependent

Hi Bluebonnet,

Thank you so much for the helpful info! Apart from the Unit Director there were four other nurses/assistant directors. I was a bit thrown off because I thought that it would be just me interviewing but there was one other candidate there too. I won't say the exact questions we got but I will say there were 5 behavioral questions (one of which was the general intro about yourself) and only 1 clinical scenario based question. The clinical scenario question was very vague but safety oriented and I feel like I should have added more about how I would have assessed the patient. But we'll see!

Hi H-Q congrats on getting interviewed! Did they mention how acceptances/rejections would work? I'm assuming based on how they rolled out info for 2nd interviews they're going to wait until the very last day (March 3) to let people know if they were rejected or accepted?

I think it all depends on the unit on when they are interviewing, their format, and how they will announce it. I've interviewed with an ICU - and they said they'll notify by end of week of 2/20. Same with a Medsurg unit - they said will know by the end of month!
