UCSF New Grad Program 2023 Questions

Updated:   Published

Hello all,

I am at the last semester of the ABSN program at Samuel Merritt. I'm expecting to graduate in early Jan and plan to take the NCLEX early Feb and no later than late Feb. I would like to know the timeline for applying to UCSF's nursing new grad Spring program 2023. Any past experiences with UCSF to share will be greatly appreciated.

For those who have gotten a call/email to interview, do you all have your license already? I'm wondering if they're prioritizing those who have them. Thanks!

I know someone who hasn't gotten their license yet, but received a call

Has anyone received PACU or Adult Surgical interviews?

Whoever is thinking of being considered into Adult ED- do you know if this means you won't be considered for other units? I want to ask but I'm not sure if asking would be OK since they said to only respond if interested.

I don't think this means you're not considered for other units! I responded back to it and also have an interview next week for another unit. It's not like the ER will accept everyone that interviews. So I don't think UCSF is going to withhold other units from interviewing you.

Did anyone hear from ped hem/onc??

Hello aspiring UCSF-ers! I had a unit interview this week and it sounds like they might ask for references next week. I emailed a Recruiter to ask but wanted to double check if those references are supposed to be in letter format or if they just want contact info for our references? It was unclear to me from the website. Thanks for sharing if anybody knows!

Hey there! Congrats for finishing your interview. I have experience with UC system and I feel this might be the case. They use something call "skillsurvey" its a platform that let you put in the references name/contact info/relationship etc. Then the skillsurvey will send out emails to those people and will await for responses from them.

Most of the times, UCs request for 5 references both from prospective candidates and alternate candidates(Waitlisted in case someone else drop/deny the offer). These references must be from professional/managers who can attest your ability.

Hope this helps. I actually have a few question if you don't mind sharing. How did your interview go? How many panels participated in the interview and what types of questions did they ask?

If you don't feel comfortable sharing, that's okay! but wish you the best luck ?

Hey everyone! I'm not sure if anyone else had this experience but I just had a unit manager call me and on the spot do a 10 minute interview. She said she noted my answers and would let the rest of the panel view and decide if they wanted to call me back again.

Hi Bluebonnet,

Thank you so much for the helpful info! Apart from the Unit Director there were four other nurses/assistant directors. I was a bit thrown off because I thought that it would be just me interviewing but there was one other candidate there too. I won't say the exact questions we got but I will say there were 5 behavioral questions (one of which was the general intro about yourself) and only 1 clinical scenario based question. The clinical scenario question was very vague but safety oriented and I feel like I should have added more about how I would have assessed the patient. But we'll see!

Oh wow...!? That must been nerve-wracking. I am sure you did well!
It is good thing that you did your interview but it is kinda hard for me to understand offering a 10 minute interview and not inviting panels. Maybe they must have ran out of spots for interview or running super short on time?

But congrats for completing your interview and wish you best luck too!! ?
