Hello!
I know this is a bit early, but I'm planning to apply to the apply to the UCSF MEPN program (among a few others) this summer/fall. I've seen similar forums for past application periods, and thought it might be nice to get one started so we can start to bounce ideas and questions off each other.
Has anyone been to an open house? Any information worth sharing?
I totally feel ya, emara9! I got accepted to Columbia and Vandy as well, but I'm really interested in hearing back from UCSF (probably my top choice) and Penn (not too far behind UCSF). Yale would be nice as another option. I'm secretly hoping to get rejected from one or two of those so that my decision isn't as difficult haha
Congrats to everyone who has been getting acceptances from other programs recently! Does anyone know if UCSF does a wait list? It seems like at least a few people accepted to UCSF may end up going elsewhere, so perhaps anyone who gets placed a wait list might have a decent chance of actually getting in.
For our cohort there was an FNP waitlist (at least two people in the program got in off the waiting list) but no waitlist for any other specialty.
In other news, decisions are being made today!! If last year is any indication, you can expect a notification in a week or so! Good luck everyone!
Same boat for me. If I get into UCSF I'm 99% sure I'll go, but I got into UPenn yesterday which is awesome and really validating. Also got into Columbia and MGH, but Columbia is a bit too expensive especially given that I'd be in for the DNP.
I'm feeling the same way! What are your thoughts on UPenn -- if you don't mind sharing your thought process, why would you ultimately choose UCSF over Penn (I ask because I am in a similar boat)? :)
@FutureNPisMe - It's a good boat to be in!
It's a very practical decision for me. I live in SF, I have a fiance who works for a start up here and would have a hard time moving (though he's willing/we're willing to try some sort of commuter relationship). I have one very good friend and several other acquaintances who are UCSF MEPN students and have shared a lot about the program & seem happy there. I shadow a UCSF APN alum, and think it's likely I'll continue to work in the SF Bay Area after graduation, and going to a school where I'm going to have a lot of professional connections and where UCSF's reputation opens a ton of doors just makes sense.
In a nutshell, I've been very primed to prefer UCSF, and haven't given other schools equal time. Now that I've gotten in to other places I will make more of an effort to connect with students/alums there but it's hard for me to see any new information about other schools being strong enough for me to choose a place that'd be much more disruptive for my life.
Wow. Did anyone else apply to Seattle U? I just got an email asking me to interview in four days.... and I live across the country. Talk about unorganized. I'm going to have to tell them I can't interview I suppose, but I'm not too bent out of shape about it considering how this makes them look. I got at least a month's notice with all other programs that do interviews. Even phone interviews, I had 2-3 weeks notice!

So far I've gotten into Columbia and MGH. UCSF has always been my top, but after getting into Columbia it'll be a little harder of a decision than I thought. So I'd LOVE to hear back ASAP so I can have a good amount of time to make this decision! The trend seems to be that we have about a month from acceptance to decide :/
