UCSD New Grad Residency July 2022

Nurses Residency

Published

Hi all! I wanted to start a topic for the July 2022 UCSD residency program applications since they close today! My first choice unit is ICU & I will graduate in early May. Good luck everyone!

Has anyone received an email saying where our interviews are supposed to be?? Or does anyone know where we’re supposed to go for the interviews?

I think it might depend on the unit but I got the email yesterday with the location and I also received my request for references today.

Me too! Has anything changed with your application?

I'm an external applicant, and my preference is the ED. I just received a call and email last night extending an interview invitation.

@Zozo123 I have only received the reference request, no further information ?

Congrats everyone to those who have received the interview! Question:  everyone who is being called for interview, are you all living in San Diego? Or is anyone from other areas? I saw some external candidates getting calls so I"m wondering if I should just move on from UCSD....

Thanks everyone and best of luck!!

For those who interviewed today, how did it go?

It went okay! It was a panel-style interview for me. I was the only applicant in the room. I was nervous but the interviewers were very kind. Mostly scenario-based questions, nothing surprising or too confusing. It was very quick too, less than an hour. How was it for you?

It went well! Just back to back questions haha. Did they say when we would hear back?

They said they would be interviewing all week so not to worry if I didn’t hear anything this week, but they made it seem like I would hear good or bad news definitely some time next week.

It was okay for me-- tough interview (lots of scenarios) but all panel members were very nice and understanding. I was the only candidate in the room and the interview lasted less than an hour. They know we are nervous and just in the beginning of our careers. They have all been there before. I also brought a portfolio but feel like they didn't really look at it (which is a bummer because I spent a lot of time on it). All in all, just BE YOURSELF. It's cliché but really is the best piece of advice I could give.

what do you all mean by scenarios? do you mean behavioral questions?

I had both behavioral questions ('tell me about a time when...') and scenario questions ('XYZ is happening with your patient, what do you do?')
