UCONN CEIN 2016

Published

Hi everyone! I thought I would start this thread to see who is or will be applying for UCONN's CEIN 2016 accelerated nursing program! I am new to this board, but read several threads from last year and learned a lot about the program and application process. It would be great to hear from others who are in the same boat as me. :)

Has anyone who applied for the January 31st review date heard anything yet? I have been checking the mailbox and my email constantly hoping to find out. And if not, does anyone know when we can expect to hear by??

I have been checking constantly too but I haven't heard anything .. I'm not sure when we will hear but I'm hoping soon!!

I too have applied for 2016 by the Jan. 31st deadline for the Stamford campus. I haven't heard anything yet either and its driving me crazy! Does anyone know if we find out by email or regular mail? Or both? I completed my undergrad in San Diego (still living here now) so a lot is riding on finding out the decision. Has anyone else heard back yet?

As for the questions about pre-reqs and finding acceptable classes, email Admin and Enrollment Services with the course description to the ones you find to see if it is an equivalent; you don't need to strictly stick to the ones on the pdf on the website. I wasn't sure if my Public Health Research class would be an equivalent for research methods, but they said it was so I just included a printout of the email with my packet of supporting documents. Genetics wasn't included in any of my undergrad so I am taking that course online through a CC out here, which was also approved as an equivalent.

To any of the people who have been accepted for this cycle or cycles in the past can you provide your stats( GPAs, GRE etc...)? Also your background work experience? Do you work in healthcare now or have any licenses? I am just trying to how my own profile compares to others? Thanks.

Hi,

I also applied to the UConn CEIN NUrsing Program for Jan. 2016 at the Waterbury campus. I called admissions last week and they said that they should be sending out letters this week.

Good luck!

Honestly, I have no idea how they evaluate who to admit or how to compare yourself to other applicants. I think they just determine who they think will be the most successful in the program. I've heard that good recommendations help! I, personally, had no healthcare experience (or licenses) prior to entering the program this year. I have a BS in psychology with a 3.4 GPA, started a school counseling MA program and had a 4.0 in there, and I had all A's and 1 A- for my prereqs. My previous work experience was all in counseling. I don't know stats for other students, but for just the group at Avery Point we do have a bunch of people who come from healthcare (EMTs, various hospital workers, etc.), but we have a lot that come from other backgrounds as well (teachers, massage therapists, military backgrounds, etc.). I wouldn't try to compare yourself to other applicants so much as just do what you can to make you look as good as possible to the review committee.

I graduated UConn in 2013 with honors, a BS in Allied Health Sciences and a minor in theater production. Cum GPA was 3.5. My pre-reqs were all As except for one B+. I know sometimes people worry about taking pre-reqs at community colleges but I took two there and had no problem. Because I was retaking a class I waited a year to apply and used the time to get my EMT-B for some healthcare experience. We have some people in our cohort with much more experience and some others who have never worked in any healthcare setting. Besides that my previous jobs were all completely unrelated to healthcare. I did have some leadership experience from my other jobs. Our cohort is incredibly diverse in terms of majors/experience/interests and it definitely seems like they look at who you are and not just what your GPA was for your first degree.

Thanks guys for responding I really do appreciate. I have just been worried, I've been a paramedic for 5 years but my GPA is only a 3.1. I have plenty of years of experience in patient care and my pre-reqs were B+ or higher for all of them but I have been turned away from other programs (ABSN, ABSN+MSN, PA, PT etc...) years ago, so I am hoping this would time it would be different. Good luck to everyone applying , hopefully we hear soon!

Just heard from the Board of Admissions today! I received a small envelope in the mail and have been offered a seat in the CEIN 2016 class at Stamford. Looking forward to hearing from everyone else!

Congrats!!! I just got the letter yesterday too. I was accepted to Storrs!! Good luck everyone!

Finally heard today too! I was accepted into the Stamford program, congrats and good luck to everyone still waiting!

Congrats!! I applied to the Waterbury program but have not heard anything yet. Hopefully, that is not bad news... I had one prerequisite to complete but finished that and submitted the transcript on yesterday. Has anyone else heard that applied to Waterbury?
