UCONN CEIN 2016

Published

Hi everyone! I thought I would start this thread to see who is or will be applying for UCONN's CEIN 2016 accelerated nursing program! I am new to this board, but read several threads from last year and learned a lot about the program and application process. It would be great to hear from others who are in the same boat as me. :)

Thanks for setting up this thread as I am also in the same boat and planning to apply for the 2016 cohort.

To those who have applied and gotten accepted into the program -- when did you have your Bachelor's Degree? I will finish my undergrad officially (transcript-wise) in December '15. However, as of 2014, all of my nursing prerequisites are already finished, so I hope that I'll be eligible to apply in the fall for January 2016.

Your feedback is appreciated! Good luck to all who are applying!

Hi ald09010:

I was in CEIN '14 and here is what I did. I only started my pre-requsites in Jan '13 but I sent in my application anyway in January, without pre-preqs: degrees, resume, recommendations, application etc. It gave me comfort that my application is already in. Then I completed my prerequisites throughout the year. By the last application review (August), I still had 2 prerequisites outstanding but scheduled to complete in December (of '13). My preference was Stamford but it was full. I was offered Avery Point - unfortunately couldn't accept that. Then got into Stamford off the waitlist.

My point being, definitely try your best for 2016. What's the worst that can happen? You wont get in but will be all set in 2017. Good luck!

So I completely agree with EVERYTHING Watercolor18 said! I couldn't have said it better myself. I have also noticed that the difference between what each campus is told has been quite frustrating.

My clinical instructor is on the committee for picking next year's students, and she said they've been working on the acceptances, but have been delayed due to so many snow days. Hang in there!

ald09010 - last year I completed all my prereqs over spring/summer/fall semesters. By the time the August applications were look at (although I applied in January.. a whole OTHER conversation haha) I still had to take chem and A&PII in the fall. The ONLY semester they seem to look at applications if the prereqs aren't complete is the August round, but you have to be done before the program starts in January. If you don't mind getting into Waterbury (or your third choice), then go for August. In reality, Storrs usually fills up quick, and although I've heard there are a few spots saved for each round of applications it seems to be that Storrs fills up by the June round of apps. If you're dead set on Storrs, you would want to wait to apply another year, but if you're a bit more flexible definitely apply this year!

I am so far happy with the program, and am definitely learning a lot! I am also open to any private message questions if somebody has something to Avery Point specificly or just doesn't want to ask here. :)

Thank you for this! I am feeling a lot better about applying :)

INN_777, BSN, RN.Thank you so much! This has really helped me.. I will at least apply and see what happens!!

Welcome. Good luck! And remember to send transcripts for prerequisites as you complete them, don;t wait until August. It helps them see that you are serious and moving towards the goal of completing them.

Did anyone relocate from out of state for the program? I'd like to go to Avery Point and I'm just wondering if it was difficult to find housing?

Also, because the pre-reqs for every program are different (maddening), I'll need to do Research Methods, Statistics and Genetics for this program. Did anyone take them online? I was looking at their accepted classes list and hoped to find one online school that offered them all, but it doesn't look like there is one. I live in RI, so online is probably ideal. Any suggestions? I'm also a little leery of some of the online 'group work' ideas. How can I count on people I don't know to pull their weight?

This program is my first choice, I'm hoping I can get it all to work out.

Thanks for any answers!

Take2: I took Genetics online in one if the CT community colleges. It worked fine. We didn't have group projects, rather we had to contribute to an online thread and comment on each others' threads. The tough part for me was that we HAD TO come for exams in person and, although community colleges are supposed to be a "system" and my local community college was more than willing to proctor those exams for me, the college where I took the class wouldn't budge and I had to drive 1.5 hours for that. But other than this logistical inconvenience, the online class worked fine.

I took genetics online through Manchester Community College, and it was entirely online. I did have a group project and paper, but we had an opportunity to tell the teacher who did what part of the assignment in order to make sure it was fair and everybody pulled their weight. I've heard the teacher that does online genetics through QVCC is really rough, so if you look that route don't enroll through there.

Thanks for the info guys! I actually like genetics so I don't mind that one, it's just research methods and statistics I'm not looking forward to. But good to know, I was reading about a U of Phoenix class where everyone was complaining about the group aspect. I'll look around. Thank you!

U of Phoenix classes were quite a bit more expensive than those in community colleges when I compared.

I know we had multiple people from other areas: California, Florida, Illinois and they didn't seem to have any problems finding housing (in fact several ended up moving in together) but I'm in the Storrs cohort, so I'm not sure about the housing situation around Avery Point.

I got my bachelors May 2013 and am currently in the 2015 cohort (I had to hold off a year to retake a class so I also got my EMT-B for some healthcare experience)
