Hi Everyone!

I saw many other threads from the previous years so I figured I would start a new one for the 2018 cycle. I recently got accepted after applying for the February 17th deadline to my first choice, Avery Point. I just wanted to connect with everyone else that is interested in this program or anyone that is going to be in this program!

I'm really excited to hear from you all and good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear back or applying for the other deadlines! :)

dorine has been incredibly unreliable for me this entire process. when i've called multiple times and she kept giving me dates i would definitely hear back and nothing. i can't get a straight answer from anyone in that office

Does anybody have any info on nursing scholarships??

I have some questions for anyone that is currently in the program/went through the program already.

How many books are we required to buy, how did you purchase the books, does uconn sell them in a bundle or can you also buy them off of amazon, and do you use the books frequently? I was one of those college students that rarely used books and actually stopped purchasing them so I wanted to know how helpful and useful they are. Thank you :)

EDIT: I also have a lot of down time right now and wanted to maybe study in advance if I could just so i can familiarize myself with the material. Any suggestions?

The book list will come out prior to the start of class. There will be bundle options, but you can easily buy (or rent) from Amazon or elsewhere. There were several times I purchased a previous edition for way less money (like $15 rather than $100), and still got As in the class because the information really didn't change all that much. My professor for pediatrics strongly discouraged the older edition, but the information was the same. On the other hand, when my Community Health professor found out some had the older edition, she listed reading assignments with corresponding page numbers for both editions.

I bought my main texts as an ebundle but most classmates went with physical texts. I chose electronic because I liked the ability to have my textbooks with me on my phone, and some of my studying was done in 10 minute intervals when I found a little down time here or there (like waiting for my kid's school bus). Unfortunately, this meant I couldn't sell them back when I was done. At the main orientation at Storrs, there was a textbook representative who walked us through the bundle options.

Hello,

I am currently in the program at Avery Point. I recommend buy all the REQUIRED textbooks, and renting the summer semester ones.

Some of the books are more helpful than others but it is definitely a lot of reading. As for being getting ahead, I would recommend the medical vocab and Bates assessments.

Hi,

I have a question for those who took Genetics online (QVCC). Were the tests questions the same type like the problems in the book?

I had took genetics last spring online for QVCC and the test questions were like the quiz questions. From what I remember there were a lot of open ended questions that required you to apply what was learned in the chapter. For example, one question asked you to summarize protein synthesis in your own words.

Thank you!

We don't have quizzes, just unit tests and final test. We are provided sample unit test that we can try prior taking real unit test. I am ok with the questions about the material in the book, however some of the problems we need to solve at the end of each chapter takes up a lot of time and not all is covered in the chapter so I was getting concerned. It would be terrible if I fail :(

Hi,

I treated the unit tests as quizzes because they only had 20-25 questions each. It was extremely easy from what I remember. As long as you complete all ur assignments on time (especially the discussion questions and responses) you should do well. I never completed any test questions at the end of the book, but I also was taking micro and gen bio at the same time, so I covered the same material in those classes. Use the unit tests as reference on what to focus on for your main exams and you should be fine. Good Luck!

Thank you!

Completing questions at the end of each chapter is part of the assignment now and some of them are difficult.

I feel better now!

Is it allowed to buy older editions if required books or do you have to buy the newest. In your opinion is there that much of a difference between the two? Also is the medical vocab a specific book or just general terms (like form Pre req classes)?

has anyone else heard anything about decisions? they still won't give me a straightforward answer or any kind of information i can work with im ready to quit on uconn and just apply elsewhere because they have made this process unnecessarily stressful for me because they aren't organized enough.

so how many people actually make it off the "wait list"
