UConn CEIN/BS 2017

Published

Hi all,

I saw a great thread from last year about UConn's 2016 CEIN/BS applicant pool and thought I'd start a new thread for applicants in the 2017 cycle.

I applied for the January 31st deadline. Based on everything I read on last year's thread, I'm thinking I'll hear back anytime between the first week of March and the last week of April - trying to stay patient! I am still working on 2 prerequisite courses but they should be done at the end of March. We'll see how the outstanding courses may affect my decision date. Stamford is my first choice for campus since I currently live/work in NYC and it's not too far away from where I currently am.

I'm excited to hear from anyone else applying to the program and what your application experience is like. Good luck to everyone!

Hi Everyone!

I found out earlier I was accepted to the Storrs campus! I look forward to meeting everyone :)

Hi everyone! I 've been following this forum for months, and I decided to make an account now, since I just got accepted to the CEIN program for 2017 for UConn Waterbury! :)

I'm a dental hygienist, and working as a hygienist at my current job has made me want to do more, and especially with a tough job market in hygiene and hitting dead ends constantly since I graduated, I decided to pursue nursing!! :) Look forward to meeting everyone and would love to connect with those going to Waterbury! Im excited to take on this new venture, and know that this program will be even crazier than hygiene school but I'm ready to take it on!

Congratulations! We will be classmates in Waterbury!

Congratulations to everyone that got in! Your hard work has payed off :)

Would anyone mind sharing their background and application stats? I wanted to narrow down how strong of prereq grades you need as a comfortable start to the application. For example, are 3 Bs acceptable if you have good recommendation letters, work experience, and essays. I'd appreciate any help :)

I just got my letter today that I have been accepted for Storrs! I can't wait to meet everyone and get started. A question for anyone who has already completed the program.. I plan to work part-time waitressing during the program. For the most part, the hours are light and flexible and based on what I've read that shouldn't be an issue. One issue I'm concerned about is that my Saturday night shift that begins at 5pm may not be negotiable on a consistent basis... Is this going to be an issue or are the instructors fairly understanding that some students need to work? Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated!! I realize that they expect a flexible schedule from students in this program but in order for me to continue to pay my bills I really have no choice :/.

I am a current student in the program at Storrs. For the most part they are not too flexible with work. I work in a hospital and have to give my availability about a month ahead of time. Most times you do not have your clinical placements in time and there have been many times where I could not sign up to work because I had no idea when my clinical was going to be. There is always a chance that you could work on Saturdays. So for for my psych rotations I did Saturdays and this fall's med-surg clinical will be Friday and Saturday. I would say don't bank on always being able to go in for 5 pm. My psych rotation was 7 am to 7 pm on Saturdays for example. When selecting sites you do get to submit preferences but you may get your last choice, which is what happened to me this fall. They really expect you to be flexible and make your work schedule work around the program. If there any other questions about the the program I am more than willing to help out!

Congrats to all that have been accepted!

HI T_22! I was recently accepted into the waterbury campus. I have a BS in Dental Hygiene. Currently working as a dental hygienist. I had 2 B's and the rest A's for my pre-reqs. Are you applying for this year? If so good luck! :)

Hello everyone!

I'm currently in the CEIN 2016 class at Stamford. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask!

hi @ekm83! Im joining the stamford cein program in january. What is the typical schedule for that campus? And also where do they usually place the students for clinicals? thank you in advance!

Question for anyone currently enrolled at Storrs: what time are the clinicals generally? I just called and was told 7-5 or 2-10 most likely. A little confused as to why 7-5 is a ten hour clinical while 7-10 is only 8? If anyone has information about the general day/evening hours it would be greatly appreciated!

Amb3582-

I am currently a student at Storrs. The clinicals vary greatly. Here's just an example of what I've had so far. Fundamentals was all days, 7-3 one day and 7-5 another. Summer varied a lot as well. For psych we did Saturdays 7-7p and another day 2-10. Maternity was 1-10 twice per week. My pediatrics was 7-7 two days a week. Community clinicals are currently unknown at this point. The med-surg rotation in the Fall is Friday, Saturday 7-5. Sites really vary and sometimes clinical instructors change the hours. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Thank you very much for your reply, it was very helpful. You put in a schedule preference before each semester, correct? Did you have an open availability or did you get the times you preferred? Do you know others who got their first choices for clinicals due to work ect?? Sorry for all the questions, just want to gain some insight!
