I did 2011 fall they send me a notification sorry, you are not chosen at this time we filled the positions with most qualified ....I send an email asking how do you know who is most qualified when you never gave me a chance ...did not even look at my application??? UCLA recruiter replied we had 1700 applications and it is hard to choose.

Sorry to hear about your situation..but maybe you can share what was your degree? ADN or BSN? When did you graduate? Any volunteer work? What departments were you applying for? Etc?
But yes, you're right, it doesn't always seem so fair, but even some of my classmates with BSN's from a good four year college, CNA experience, pretty good GPA's, great references...still didn't an interview. Of course, everyone needs to realize that having any sort of nursing degree today is not an automatic job guarantee, by any means.
We all want to think that we're the right person for the job. But with only a few openings per department and HR having to look thru hundred's that are divided into those units (for example, not everyone wants M/S, so it's not in the 1,000's), they have a certain time to make their decisions and having to interview each applicant and then, those being interviewed are still not guaranteed a job, they must have found something from your resume that made it go into the "Not selected" bin.
Just can't give up and just move on. If you do call it quits now, you're just letting someone else get into your slot. It will still be a long road to walk, as I read somewhere in CA, that 40% or more of new grads will not find a nursing job. That's just the facts from the recent nursing survey conducted in CA.
I have a BSN, 3.6gpa (nursing), 3.3 cumulative, no cna experience, but lots of tutoring and leadership experiences. I have a strong philosophy of nursing which was stated in my cover letter. I did not spend hours on the internet looking for cookie-cutter questions/answers for my interviews. My recommendation is not to focus on the 1000 of apps but focus on yourself. Confidence is key and always focus on quality of patient care and safety as the basis for all of your answers.
I interviewed on the 15th for Oncology at UCLA SM. It seems like those that got offered the positions interviewed the week prior. Did you guys just wait it out, or call a week after to follow-up? I sent out the thank you letters/emails immediately after my interview. Just wondering if anyone has advice as to what they did to follow-up. Also, if anyone has received offers for any of Med-Surg/step downs. Thanks.
