ztc4420,

i interviewed for picu santa-monica and was wondering the same thing as you about second interviews or what was going on with that process.

ztc4420,

i interviewed for picu santa-monica and was wondering the same thing as you about second interviews or what was going on with that process.

I interviewed for SM's PICU and they said they would let us know by the first week of December at the latest. BUT I don't know what they will be letting us know lol I'm assuming a second interview but maybe they could only be doing one round?? I didn't ask :(

Hello everyone,

I had an interview for intermediate care unit (santa monica) on the 15th and i thought it went relatively well. The interviewer asked me the basic "tell me more about yourself: why do you want to become a nurse?" "what are your strengths and weaknesses?".

but she also asked me situational questions like what things i need to monitor for a patient on a heparin drip, or how to delegate to a CNA and she actually listed 4 different kinds of patients. She asked me how I felt about delegation, if i was a perfectionist or if i can get my tasks done without making sure they are perfect ( i kinda felt this was a trick question because i do like to complete tasks as best as i can but, i told her that i wasn't a perfectionist and that the priority is the patient's safety and care), and what nursing tasks i found most objectionable.

overall, i felt she really grilled me and wanted to make sure that i could handle the job. I'm glad that she asked me penetrating questions because i can tell she was interested in seeing how competent i am. i hope that she found my responses intelligent. She told me that the floor i would be working on is very fast paced and high pressure. she asked me how i handle a high pressure environment and i told her that i like to take a moment to breathe, refocus, and prioritize my most urgent patients/tasks. I told her that I am very organized.

overall, i felt good about the interview because i was very relaxed and confident. i think the reason why i was so relaxed was that i prepared very much for this interview by reviewing questions and asking my friends who already had nursing interviews to reheorifice questions with me. I found that these rehearsals really boosted my confidence. i'm glad that i was the first person she interviewed.

i asked her if there will be a second interview and she said, "no this is it." and then i asked when i will be hearing from her and she said, "next week." this was very surprising to me bc i thought it usually takes 2-3 weeks. since she didn't require a second interview i'm thinking that she made up her mind already about whether or not she wanted to hire me which is nerve racking!

on the day of the interview a hospital in mississippi called me for an interview sometime in dec so if ucla doesn't work out at least i have a backup!

best of luck to everyone!

Hey, SeptemberRN! I don’t think I’m allowed to email other members just yet. Regarding the interview I had for psych, it went ok. I think it could go either way. It was definitely a good learning experience! Brendan and Susan interviewed me, and Susan gave me her card, so we'll see! They said they'll let me know either way pretty soon, up to 2 weeks max but will most likely be pretty soon.

They said they're trying to fill 3 spots, and are only doing one round of interviews. They also said they don’t have anything open for geriatrics in psych. I'm gonna call Susan on Monday to check on the progress. I'll definitely post back with an update.

Hope you and the others get an interview soon!

All the best!

P.S. They asked basic questions, like why we should hire you, what are your weaknesses, how would you handle difficult patients who had to be restrained as a last resort, and something similar to describing a situation that made you feel like you were making a difference in a patient's life, a difficult situation that challenged you.

hey patientRN, thanks for sharing your interview experience. i'm sure you did great!

was just wondering if you happened to know how many people they interviewed/will be interviewing for psych? did it seem like they were interviewing lots of candidates that day?

sorry, i really hope it doesn't seem like im grilling you or anything! just wondering if i should give up hope, haha.

Hey ChineseLantern! They didn't say how many they were interviewing, but I'll ask on Monday when I call and update you guys! There were quite a few people interviewing, but I think most of the candidates were there for M/S positions, at least when I was there between 8-9am. I know of at least 5 who were interviewing for M/S during that time, and there were maybe around 15-20 people total that early.

I wouldn't give up hope just yet, at least through this week and next. I know how hard it is to wait, we're all in the same boat. I hope we can all get jobs soon, wherever we end up. :)

Oh by the way, the interview was pretty short, maybe around 20 minutes or so, and the lady Susan who interviewed me was really friendly.

Thanks so much for sharing patient RN! That really was thorough and informative. I thought they might be doing interviews on Nov. 29th, or even Dec 5th, but since the interviewer told you two weeks, now I doubt that. It's good to know to stop waiting for that phone call and move on to different hopes. I hope you get the job!! Best of luck!! :)
