Hey Guys!
Just wanted to start a thread for people who applied to UCLA's new grad nurse residency program! Lets keep each other updated!

All internal applicants are guaranteed 1 interview, even if that means in a unit they didn’t choose. As far as external applicants go, it’s fair game for everyone. Each unit looks for something different, but my unit director said that were looking for a well rounded applicant which meant hospital experience/volunteer experience/ leadership involvement. Grades weren’t so heavily looked at (I was hired with a 3.4).
Hello! Thank you for replying! I wish I could've told my friend that. She had quit without trying to apply (after 7 years of working there) because she felt that she didn't have a chance to even get interviewed.
Do you happen to know what the CVICU or surgical ICU directors are looking for?

I was wondering if you guys have any advice or just anything you thought gave you a better chance at landing an interview? I keep hearing that it is very difficult to land an interview for UCLA, even for internal applicants, but I'm seeing a lot of you guys receiving an offer to be interviewed and so I'm wondering what you guys have done differently than others.
@bubups The two main tips i Can recommend for you to increase your chance of landing an interview are:
1. Apply AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Know what day the app opens, wake up early, and refresh your browser every 30 min until they open the application. Pre-fil as much as you can before it opens and have your resume and cover letter ready to go.
2. Your best shot at getting an interview is if you have experience with the patient population. Include your externship or volunteer work or whatever you have done that is relevant to that floor in your resume.
Good luck!

It's definitely been a long wait, but well worth it!! She told me that I will be contacted by HR shortly within the next couple days to receive my official offer, so hopefully those of you who still haven't heard back will hear back soon!! I'm so excited to meet my fellow new grads once we officially start!! Can't wait!!!??
Hello ? I’m a current applicant for the UCLA New Residency Program for Winter 2020. I got an invite to interview with 8ICU and would love to hear about your interview experience. Thank you! I hope you’re enjoying the new residency program ?

I'm super relieved the wait is over, and I hope everyone will get to hear back if they haven't already! While I was on the phone with the unit director, I did ask when the start date is, and she let me know April 22nd in case anyone else was curious. Newgrad5446, I guess I'll see you soon!

Hello everyone, Congratulations to those who are now a part of the UCLA team of nurses! Reading everyone’s comments was very helpful as I now wait to hear back from UCLA for an interview call. I applied for the UCLA New Residency Program for Winter 2020, and my current status states “In review.”
Has anyone else head back regarding interviews?

Quite a few have heard back since the past 1-2 weeks! But I just received an email this Wednesday for an interview ?

does anyone have any tips for the interview? Like what to bring and what’s expected...?
The email lists what to bring:
-Cover Letter
-Updated Resume
-2 Letters of Recommendation
-Copy of Official or Unofficial Transcripts
-If you have an RN License, please bring a copy- front and back
-If you have BLS Card, please bring a copy - front and back
It's always safe to bring multiple copies of your portfolio. My interviewers from other hospitals really liked mine and it really does set you apart from others. Make sure to put a picture in the front too!
