UCLA New Grad Program 2010

Has anyone heard anything back from the UCLA New Grad Summer Program for 2010? I applied in the beginning of February and have only had a phone interview so far, with no feedback yet. Any info or others' experience would be much appreciated, thank you!

To those who have applied -

I am applying to the new grad program which applications start on March 7. I was wondering if there is an application online right now that we can print and fill out, or if it only appears once the application period has opened?

Is this application long? I have heard to have all my materials read to copy and paste or attach into the application, but from past experience, doing the actual application has been tedious.

Where does the application appear? Currently, the only place you can find information about the new grad program is under the "events" website, but I have tried to click around and find the actual application, but have had no luck.

One final question, I just started an job application online that I found somewhere on the UCLA website. Is this needed, or do I just wait for the one that appears (??) on March 7?

Thanks!!

To find the application on 3/7, simply go to: http://jobs.healthcare.ucla.edu/02_home_app.html and click on Job Search and apply. Then click on find jobs (you do not need a login here) , and the application will be found under the Nursing link.

The application itself can only be filled out once it has been posted on 3/7 (from my experience it will be posted EARLY in the AM), and it can only be submitted electronically that day along with your attachments (resume, cover letter, transcripts, letters of recommendation). The application isn't really that long, what takes the most time is the online assessment that you will be asked to take after you submit your application (simple behavioral questions). To save yourself some time, it might be a good idea to create a username and password now and input all of your personal information into your profile. Once this is set, the website will remember it and automatically put it in for you to the appropriate places on the app.

As far as the job application you started now, it is not needed, but it will be helpful to already have your profile set up so that when you are frantically filling out the new grad application at 7am on 3/7, there will be less for you to do! Good luck!!!

Got tired of waiting to hear back from the OR, so I called and was offered a position! Won't start til 3/28 but I couldn't be more excited!

I got into the OR too! Have you heard any more info from the assistant nurse manager since the call? I thought she was supposed to email us a couple weeks ago...

Thank you Jen jen! You're post was unbelievably helpful.

By any chance, do you/or anyone else, know who we are supposed to address our cover letter to?

My department (ER) did end up hiring two new grads - they start on the next schedule, which begins February 19th :)

Hi Northbay, may I ask about the recommendation that the UCLA asked you last year when you applied? because I am a BSN grad outside US and have no working experience since I just passed my nclex last nov2010.. can u tell me where I should get my recommendation? I'm losing hope I think the moment they find out that I don't have a recommendation letter, they wont entertain me.:cry::cry:

So just a heads up for all my fellow nurses... don't email *****. I made this mistake... turns out if you can only submit the applicaiton online for the New Grad Program... NO PHONE CALLS OR EMAILS REGARDING the program. You can only email her if you are nurse with experience looking for a permanent position. she also mentioned that she has ppl working for that take care of these matters.

I feel like an idiot... i think i just lost my shot at the program by ******* off the wrong lady. I'm going to assume I probably got this email because so many ppl have been bothering her. Anyways, just wanted to share with you my experience so u don't make the same mistake.

Unsure if we should submit or not submit for this program if we graduate in August. Hearing conflicting information. I went ahead and submitted but wondering if I should inactivate my application.

sugarlips - i don't see the harm in applying. i applied for the program last oct when i graduated in december and was able to interview & offered a position. as long as your BSN is conferred prior to the start date (i would imagine). you are also able to work under your CA interim permit during the new grad residency (although they don't recommend it - as you would be studying for nclex and going through the new grad program at the same time - which would be very stressful!)

I made a call, you are to have your licence before applying.

Hey guys,

Join the new forum! They already have a thread for our cohort.

--see you guys there

I would go ahead and make the appointment with the health center. That's probably the first step in the process and you'll probably get more information about the rest of the process afterwards.

Congrats! :)

Hi Janbug,

i am a current UCLA nursing student (in the MECN program) who will be graduating this June.

I recently applied to the UCLA new grad program and have an interview for the geriatric step down at Santa Monica. I was so happy to come across the thread in which mentioned that you were hired to that unit last year i believe. I am obviously nervous about the interview and would like to prepare as much as possible. Would you be able to share information regarding the types of conditions you normally treat on that unit, and the most commonly used medications. I never had the opportunity to have a clinical rotation at SM so i would really appreciate any information, interview tips, you're willing to pass on.

Thank you!

any one hear yet about UCLAs summer nurse Extern program?? Still waiting?? Should I email and ask when, or not bother them and wait. I have another offer, but would rather be in LA.??

Does anyone know how many times a year UCLA has new grad programs?
