UCLA New Grad Program 2010

Published

Has anyone heard anything back from the UCLA New Grad Summer Program for 2010? I applied in the beginning of February and have only had a phone interview so far, with no feedback yet. Any info or others' experience would be much appreciated, thank you!

Does anyone know if the Liver/Surgical ICU has made any decisions? Or when we can expect to hear back?

UCLA is a great hospital, and I am so grateful that they are hiring new grads at all, but I have to say I was offered my dream job at another hospital and I am so relieved to not have to wait, wait, wait wonder, and hope anymore. Good luck to everyone but I have to say it is so nice to be off the UCLA-waiting train! I hope everyone gets the job that they want, soon!!!

Congrats! What hospital?!

Congratulations NewGradRN001! So exciting! Best of luck with your new job!

@newgradRN001: Congratulations !!!

@sdnewgradnurse: Your interview is this week, right? Good luck to you! Cant wait to hear how it goes....

Lets hope this week is revealing to those of us who recently interviewed...

NewGradRN001....which hospital did you accept a position at?

And for the rest of you still waiting...Loma Linda University Medical Center is starting a New Grad group for PEDS. If you do apply there, go to their website and pay careful attention to their "values"-- that is what they judge you on. They don't care so much about your GPA or if you went to a top school, they are more interested in the "person" applying.

So I interviewed for the Neuro/Trauma ICU today and just wanted to pass along information for anyone still waiting to hear back from their interviews...

The unit manager said she will be making final decisions by the end of the month (ahh, such a long time :()-- start date for orientation is March 7th. I'm unsure if this is the same timeline for other ICU's ..... however, I spoke with someone who interviewed for the Liver/surgical ICU today and she said that the unit manager is expecting to make offers a week from now. Just wanted to pass this information as i know how much anxiety this "waiting game" instills upon us...it looks like they are finishing up with the interviews this week. Good luck everyone!!

@sdnewgradnurse: got your message but I cant PM yet.... arrrgh

I hope your interview went well... I liked the unit manager a lot, but I am not sure that I am a good fit with the unit, honestly. I felt 'off my game' so-to-speak, when I interviewed with the peer nurses. I sure hope it went better for you!

GOOD LUCK!!!!

My interview is suppose to be next week, but I have to call and confirm tomorrow. That's why I was wondering if you knew how many positions were left because she unit director hasn't responded to my request, and this is the second time I've been rescheduled :'( And I'm not the only person this is happening to, so it's making me think that she's not looking to interview any more people if she's not confirming my set interview date. Anywho, Good luck to you!!!

@sdnewgradnurse: Im sorry I have no idea how many positions! I did not ask - I should have - ha ha - I was too nervous.

I dunno what is happening except that it seems to be taking a very long time for most... A few people here and there got hired the same day, but that was probably a lot to do with timing (well, and that they must have been a great 'fit' for the unit). I don't think many people get recommended to interview for a unit if the HR isn't reasonably sure they are qualified, then it seems to be based on 'fit' and timing. I imagine we are all fairly qualified as New Grads given that we got this far... right?

I hope you get your interview - at the least it is a very good experience and will make your next interview a lot stronger! UCLA was my first interview and before I passed NCLEX - now I have passed (yeah!) and my interviews since UCLA have been so much stronger and focused! So no matter what happens, I am grateful that I learned a lot from the experience - I am better for it.

Hang in there everyone!
