UCLA New Grad Program 2010

Published

Has anyone heard anything back from the UCLA New Grad Summer Program for 2010? I applied in the beginning of February and have only had a phone interview so far, with no feedback yet. Any info or others' experience would be much appreciated, thank you!

Awesome! Congrats to you.... enjoy your new journey....

Thanks for posting that...I received a job offer last week but haven't heard anything, even in reply to repeated emails, so was wondering what was going on. I guess I'll just keep waiting.

This has been an interesting hiring process. Maybe it's because they're such a large institution?

I just got two job offers as well! I'm so excited! now i need to find a place to live, is anyone looking for roommates or have any suggestions on how to find somewhere to live? (i'm coming from out of state so i know nothing!)

Congrats!

see you at orientation, if all ICUs have orientation at the same day =P

Congrats to everyone - seems like UCLA is wrapping up and beginning to make long-awaited notifications...

@schsten: I know the area well - if I can be helpful, let me know. I cant PM yet... but for starters:

Safe & Good areas near RR UCLA: West LA, Culver City, Brentwood, Mar Vista, and Santa Monica (most expensive of the 5 areas). These areas are all pretty easy on commute. LA is not about "distance/miles" but about "time" in terms of commute. People rarely say "oh it is only 6 miles", they say "it is about 20 minutes." It can take 30 mins to go 10 miles, easily, so stay close to the hospital and you will have less time/traffic stress. There are patterns to the high traffic times, so you will get used to it and the best streets to take at various hours.

Before I move anywhere, I check Meganslaw.com for registered sex offenders, plus this link to crime rates and safe statistics - you can plug in different zip codes or cities to look at the area stats. Also, the police dept of that area will have a neighborhood resource officer (NRO) and you can call them about the areas.

I hope this helps - feel free to PM me, I just cant respond through PM.

Good luck to you!

I forgot to ad that Westside rentals is a great place to look for places in the area. Craigslist is unfortunately hit n miss.... I have had scammers respond back to me asking me to send money to them in another country, etc, etc... scary... yet some are great and you will see them on Craigslist and Westside Rentals. Still, I prefer to not waste my time with whether it is a legit rental or not....

Los Angeles Apartments, Orange County Apartments, and San Diego Apartments

Also, Roommate info with UCLA students can be found in the UCLA paper:

Good Luck!

thanks so much! i will take a look at all your suggestions. I can't pm yet either but ill let you know if I have any more questions! I have to figure this all out quickly though!

ObiwanJJ - Did you ever hear back? Wishing you the best of luck!

Sdnewgradnurse - Did you do your interview? How did it go?

Schsten - What unit/hospital did you decide on? (You had mentioned you got two offers). Good luck with your move out to CA, I love it here, so I hope you do too!

Hello hello :) My interview was yesterday, and I thought it went pretty well. Everyone was so nice and friendly...all smiles! I liked all the people who I met/spoke to so far & I like the unit too. I was told me I would hear by the end of this week, and if not that I should call her. AHH!! Congrats to all and good luck!

Thanks for everyone's help on here. I've said it a few times, but I love this forum, and all the support and positivity it gives us all! You are all great!

I was offered a position (by phone call) last night from the unit manager at SM =) If your interested in the specific unit, just PM me. Hang in there guys and have confidence! Wish everyone the best of luck!!

Also for those that will be offered a position, PM me if your interested in rooming together. Ill be moving to LA before the start date and have no idea where to start looking for a places to live! Any suggestions would be great!!

Hey I know you posted this awhile ago but I just got a job on the PICU and was wondering if you were still looking for a roommate or anything? I'm moving to LA from out of state and have no idea what to do either! I would PM you but i dk how/don't think i can do that yet? It would be nice to know someone going into all of this!!

onestepatatime.... Thanks so much I'm so excited to move to LA! I interviewed with the acute peds manager and the PICU manager at mattel and decided to take the position on the PICU! I can't wait to start but i'm nervous about getting moved out there and finding a place to stay. It has been a difficult search so far, mostly because I don't live out there so I can see anything in person....

sdnewgradnurse....sorry i cant send PMs yet, but i wanted to answer your question... i didnt ask her how many spots she had left exactly but she said she had multiple interviews left and she made it sound like she was still going to be hiring more! I hope you hear good news soon! I'm sure all went well :)
