UCLA New Grad Program 2010

Published

Has anyone heard anything back from the UCLA New Grad Summer Program for 2010? I applied in the beginning of February and have only had a phone interview so far, with no feedback yet. Any info or others' experience would be much appreciated, thank you!

It helps to have the NCLEX behind you. I know I went to about 4 or 5 interviews before I had taken my NCLEX and although it was great experience and they said they would consider me even if I hadn't taken the test yet, their priority was for those who had passed it already.

I actually asked two hospitals when I didn't get a job if there was anything I could do to improve my chances and they both said, pass your boards so you have that license going into an interview

Woohoo! Just got a call too! I have to call the hospital tomorrow to schedule an interview. I was told that it will either be with the recruiter or the unit manager. It depends on the unit I guess. My status still says "we have contacted you for an interview." fyi

Specializes in PICU, OB/GYN.

I appreciate the advice, however, I am in a bit of a tricky situation. I am contractually obligated to obtain employment by June 2011. I received the HRSA Nursing Scholarship, and I signed a contract. In exchange for HRSA paying my tuition, books and a monthly stipend, I must work in a facility with a shortage of nurses (i.e. hospital) for 2 years. I feel it was too good to pass up, as I have the bulk of my education paid for, and only 200 students a year in the US receive an award.

I understand that I am not as desirable as someone who has their license, but I have to try. Most of the new grad programs will not start again until June-August, which is cutting it close. I only just finished school at the end of November. So, I'm just doing all I can!

What was the first numbers from UCLA ? Was it a 310 area code?

Yes it's area code 310

I just got a call to schedule interviews as well. :yeah: I'm so excited as this is my first choice of hospitals!

Congratulations on getting that scholarship!

Don't worry too much about the NCLEX. I thought it was hard, but not as hard as I expected it to be. I studied for test for a little less than a month. Just do a lot of practice questions and review your weaknesses. Good luck!
