UCLA New Grad Program 2010

Published

Has anyone heard anything back from the UCLA New Grad Summer Program for 2010? I applied in the beginning of February and have only had a phone interview so far, with no feedback yet. Any info or others' experience would be much appreciated, thank you!

Hi NorthBay,

I'm not really sure which unit you got, but do you have any tips you can share with me? I have my interview with the unit manager next week, and its's making me really nervous. Any tips would help.

Thanks.

PS I'd send this as a private message, but I don't know how too.

Had an interview in L&D with the unit director a week and a half ago. Havent heard anything back yet. Wanted to know it there was anyone else out there who got a job offer in L&D or has heard back after the final interview

I got the job :) Please PM me if you'd like info such as unit, how the interview went, etc! I'd prefer to not post it on the public board as I'd like to remain relatively anonymous.

Best of luck to everyone waiting for a call! I have my fingers crossed for you!! :redbeathe

Congrats NorthBay! Which unit did you apply for? Any tips on what I should expect during the interview? Anything would help! Thanks.

Sorry I keep asking. I'm just really nervous.

Take a deep breath and just be yourself! :) I didn't interview in the PICU so I don't know what to tell you about the unit manager interview. My final interview was more of a conversation than a formal interview where she asked a question and I answered. We talked about my clinical experiences, why I chose the unit I did, the most interesting patient I ever had, and what I expect from my future preceptor/mentor/unit manager. I didn't have any clinical scenario questions, but my friends who interviewed in other departments did (none of them were PICU, though). I recommend brushing up on your answers to the common behavioral questions such as why did you choose nursing, why did you choose UCLA, why did you choose the PICU, what can you bring to the unit, strengths, weaknesses, etc... Other than that, all you can do is be honest and try to keep yourself calm! Confidence and poise goes a long way

Good luck and let us know how it goes! :redpinkhe

To the new hires... what a big accomplishment, Congrats!! To those still waiting to hear.. best wishes!! I have read through this post and found it so helpful as to what the current job market is like. I am currently waiting to be accepted to a nursing program (both ADN and BSN) and just curious if those of you who got the job at UCLA.. did you have your ADN or BSN. I'm trying to figure out which direction to take. From the sounds of it though, it's extremely competitive to get into a new grad program, and perhaps a BSN would be beneficial.

Thanks!

Anyone know if they've sent out rejection emails yet? :/

Got offered a position in the Geriatric Stepdown unit at SM-UCLA last Friday. I said yes(!!!!) and started my paperwork with HR yesterday. :nurse:

Hi Everyone,

I've recently accepted a position at UCLA PICU! Does anyone know have any information regarding the hiring process (paperwork ,etc). The manager only told me to make an appointment with the health center to get my medical clearance. Other than that, she hasn't really said or sent me anything. Does anyone know what I should do? Thanks!

I would go ahead and make the appointment with the health center. That's probably the first step in the process and you'll probably get more information about the rest of the process afterwards.

Congrats! :)

I found out yesterday that ALL Santa Monica-UCLA new graduates except ICU/CCU are starting on August 2nd. That's twelve days from now! AH. I was anticipating August 16th or August 23rd (which is when ICU/CCU is starting) so was dead shocked when HR said, "O yes, all new graduates not in a critical care setting are starting August 2nd – didn't your unit manager tell you?"

Wanted to give a heads up to any other SM new grads who haven't received their start date — hope you're packed!

WHOA.

August 2nd?

I feel so... unprepared.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm going back to HR/Employee Health on Thursday so I'll try to get more info (if possible).

Hey Peachsnapple!

Congratulations! Just wondering when did you meet with the unit manager and when did you get an offer? I'm just trying to figure out how many more positions are available based on what I was told when I had my interview. Thanks. Congrats and good luck!
