Not sure what they mean by "rotating" because I was told that once we were off orientation the unit director (Valerie) would determine where the openings were and would place us. She did say that we could state a preference, but she couldn't guarantee it.
I'm in Palms. It's about a 15min. drive to the hospital by streets, maybe more or less of a commute by freeway depending on time of day. Oh and FYI - the Geriatric Med-Surg Stepdown unit is at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center, not Ronald Reagan (the one in Westwood). Both facilities are affiliated with UCLA, but Ronald Reagan is the one that's more well-known because it's the big trauma hospital and Santa Monica is more of a community hospital.
As for locations to search.. it really depends on what you're looking for. Do you have any pets? Do you need an assigned parking spot? I used padmapper.com to find my current place. It allows you to search by address/city/zip and you can select preferences like min/max rent, # of bedrooms, dog or cat-friendly, etc. One tip: Check if the place comes with a fridge. In LA rental companies/landlords aren't required to provide a fridge.. so unless you're okay with buying or renting a fridge, try to find a place that already comes with one. It's one less thing to have to move.
Let me know if you have any more questions but I apologize in advance if I don't reply right away. I'm going back to work tomorrow and it'll be my first time on night shift.
p.s. I secretly love Colorado too, but only during the summer. My SoCal-born self can't handle shoveling snow or temperatures below 50 degrees.
