Hello!
The application window starts January 1st, which is a couple weeks away from now. I am excited to apply though and see what happens. Who else is planning to apply here?
I am planning on applying to both the accelerated and traditional pathways.
I asked the advisor, Heather, about the benefit of having all prereqs completed vs. 7 of 8 and she said there is no benefit. You won't be looked at as a worse candidate for not having them all done. And they don't put UCF students first, just the most qualified! It worked out badly for me because I'm a UCF student and did all my prereqs there, and the A & P classes are close to impossible there so I have a B in Anatomy. I heard from a friend that those classes at Valencia are challenging but not like UCF. I wish I had taken that as a transient student!

Well that's good to know, thanks for sharing the info! I have the same problem .. I did most of my prereqs years ago at UCF including my MCB course that was required for molec and micro... it's 5 credits instead of 4 and I got a B so that hurts my GPA more than it otherwise would :/ oh well, hopefully we'll be fine!
I took the 5 credit hour micro, and the anatomy and physiology at UCF. Man were they hard (but not impossible). I do kinda wish there was something in place for students who took their science prereqs there. It's hard to compete with students who did well in their cc prereqs! I know FSU (for accelerated) looked positively on whether you took advanced science and math courses.
I purposely completed all of my prereqs the semester before, so it is good that maybe just maybe there was a benefit in doing that.
I feel like the admission process is so secretive. Why don't they give us percentage breakdowns of what's most important? Why don't they post last years acceptance averages? Why don't they have a FAQ section about increasing chances of admission (not just get better grades or higher teas score). Other schools state tips of acceptance or percentage breakdowns. Heck some cc post their point system of how they're accepting students. But not UCF. Many students want to know why they were/weren't accepted. What exactly are they looking for besides the obvious?
If you got a B at UCF for Anatomy I wouldn't sweat it. They know that the UCF A&P classes are head and shoulders more difficult than the Valencia ones are. They probably don't post the specific information simply because that would most likely deter quite a lot of people from applying; which seems highly counter intuitive.
That's true. I just would feel it's not fair if they compare pre reqs done at the cc vs university especially sciences. It's unfair comparison that's all. If they took the applicants and divided it into two groups, science classes done at cc and classes done at university level it would make it slightly more fair.
I wonder the same really. I heard from UCF students that their A&P courses tend to be quite detailed and serious, although I felt like my Seminole course was actually quite the same. But I wonder if it's really possible for them to be dividing groups up or not. I doubt a B will really look all that bad, especially if you have exemplary work elsewhere. If it makes you feel better, I have one stinking B out of my pre-reqs that keeps me from that beautiful 4.0- and it's in Chemistry. I would assume a B in A&P is much more respectable than Chem, especially from a university level.

Don't quote me on this, but I recall hearing from someone in another forum who stated that they had been told that if it came down to two people with the same GPA/TEAS overall, but that one person had a pre-req left and the other didn't, the person with all of theirs completed would be chosen simply because they are 100% ready to go and there isn't a chance that they'll fail/drop their last pre-req.
Again, I could be 100% wrong, and this could even be info gleaned from Seminole's program and not UCF's, but even if there is no proof to document this would be the case, I could see that this would likely be the case regardless because it's less a risk on the school's end to accept someone who is done vs. someone who is not.
As for the person worried about being accepted by UCF-
I applied mid-October. I got accepted at the end of December, but this was due to them wanting a transcript from my Fall semester, which was not completed until the 13th of December. But the person who answered you is correct- if you haven't been accepted by the deadline, and you apply, they will review your status right then and there and expedite a decision to decide if you'll be a candidate for the program or not.
