UCF Traditional and Accelerated BSN-2014

Published

Hello!

The application window starts January 1st, which is a couple weeks away from now. I am excited to apply though and see what happens. Who else is planning to apply here?

I am planning on applying to both the accelerated and traditional pathways.

Currently I work Tuesday-Saturday. The other shift would be a Monday-Friday week. I've got more work to do to be super sure that they will be as flexible as they claim and allow me to have days maybe where I don't come in at all. But they're telling me for now that's ok and they'll do it. So we will see.

Kinda stinks that you can't pick your lab times, but I can see how that would conflict with 120 people trying to pick times and too many wanting this time or that. But at least none of them seem to be at really outrageous times.

Wow, that's a big paper. Good thing I have little trouble writing them. :bookworm:

If it comes down to it, like I said, it's school vs work, and school will 100% win. This program is far too valuable to me to give up over money concerns.

How many hours a week would you say that you spend studying? Also, out of curiosity, do you know of many people who made it into the program with less than a 4.0 pre-req GPA?

I would honestly say 2 - 3 days a week would be preferred at least for the 1st semester! I know I could have juggled 1 more shift per week the first semester, but I was okay money wise for just the 2, and I did not want to overload myself! For me, for the 1st semester I made sure I did SOME kind of assignment everyday. Of course on Saturday I was way too tired after my double to do any kind of homework haha unless I absolutely needed to! For exams, the instructors give study guides. Many of us shared study guides too so that helped a lot with me having to make my own if I did not have a lot of time for the week! And for the pre req... to be honest everyone that I have spoken to sounded like they had a 4.0, granted I honestly did not ask that many students their GPA stats, but do not take my word I am SURE there were students with less than! I did ask a lot of students about their TEAS though... and MANY were from the 82 range and up, manyyyyy around my TEAS score

I see what you're saying. I can definitely agree there. I could probably work more, but why work more and risk overburdening myself? I will definitely give it some serious consideration.

I do hope then that my 3.88 pre-req won't doom me to getting a rejection. My TEAS I had hoped would make up for that, since I scored a 91.3, but who knows what they value more.

Thank you again for all your advice and help. I do hope that the people I encounter in the program, should I be accepted, are much like you, because at least I know I will be surrounded by friendly, helpful people. So far everyone who has posted here seems very nice and I would be more than happy to be in a cohort with them. ;)

Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum, I am so excited to be in this journey with all of you! I have read the other posts and a little bit confused on what you all mean by pre req GPA? I spoke with Heather and she told me they break it down into 2 categories: science pre req and other pre req, so when you say your GPA is 3.8 is that all those courses or just the average of the two categories? Sorry if this is confusing!

The pre-req GPA I believe most of us are mentioning is the GPA we have on the pre-requisites for the program- that is, all 8 (or 7 if you've only done 7). I forgot about the science pre-req only portion. The science GPA is of course made up of the four science courses required and then the other GPA is the four non-science courses required.

Oh ok, thank you!

No problem! Welcome to our little chat here. Everyone seems to be very busy, which I don't doubt because the spring semester has begun and everyone's trying to make sure they're ready to apply. I wish you luck as well with your application. Hopefully we will all be accepted. :)

Thank you Ivoryleola! I really hope we all do, this is my number one choice, but my stats aren't the best. :/

Everyone has aspect(s) of their stats that they're unsure about. The stat is not ideal and the worry that the number isn't high enough crosses everyone's minds. So try not to worry, our scores are all high and great. I have officially applied to both the bsn and ABSN programs. Yes! This process is scary and we won't hear anything for a long time. All we can do is hope that the odds will be in our favors haha.

I'm with ya, futureucf! I didn't know they broke the prereqs into science and non so now I am pretty worried about that... but, most of us have something we're worried about, as missind33 said, so we just have to let it go and hope it's enough! :)

You both are so right! I have already completed the application the first day it opened, so now it will definitely feel like a long time till we hear anything back. It was a shock to me that they did break the pre reqs into 2 sections as well, but I guess I understand why. I can't wait to finally hear back and hopefully it is the news we have all been waiting for!

You said it well, missind33. We all have our doubts, we just have to hold tight and wait and hope that UCF makes a decision in our favor. If it's meant to be, it will be.
