Hello!
The application window starts January 1st, which is a couple weeks away from now. I am excited to apply though and see what happens. Who else is planning to apply here?
I am planning on applying to both the accelerated and traditional pathways.
Oh my gosh. I happened to check my junk email just looking for something else I was expecting but couldn't find in my regular inbox, and I caught a UCF email in there. I swear, it's legitimate. From the [email protected] email, sent about 10 minutes ago. Please confirm if you can check your email to make sure I'm not imagining all of this.
No interview process. I repeat. No interview process.
Here's a majority of the email-
Dear Nursing Applicant,
The College of Nursing would like to inform you of a very recent change in our application process for the Basic BSNprogram. Effective immediately, the College of Nursing has decided to cancel the Tuesday, April 15th, 2014 interview date that we previously asked you to hold on your calendar. This means that interviews will not be conducted as part of the application consideration for the FALL 2014 COHORT, and all applicants will be sent a decision via email within approximately 8 weeks of their application deadline.
The interview process began as a pilot, and after collecting over a year of data on this pilot process, it was determined that the interview component was non-contributory to an applicant’s admission decision. The application criteria that will still be used to make an admission decision include: your cumulative GPA, your prerequisite grades, and your TEAS score.
Please remember that your admission decision email will be sent to the email address that you provided on your application. In addition, please make sure to add [email protected] to your safe sender list so that our email does not go to your spam or trash folder. If you created a Knights email account after applying, please email [email protected] with that updated email address, and your admission decision will then be sent to the Knights email account.
I just received an email from UCF, they are NOT doing interviews for their ABSN and traditional BSN program. They will instead be sending their admission results 8 weeks after the deadline.
I am honestly relieved, but a bit worried. This means that they will be dissecting our numbered scores. I wish they had told us this earlier and not just weeks before the deadline. If I/we had known this earlier I would have decided to retake the TEAS, however I was confident that because my score was within the bracket of the average, that I would have no problem. Now I'm sweating over my (86) and its too late to retake it.
OK! I am not insane. I felt my heart drop a second and I kept swearing I was imagining all of this.
I feel relieved, because as someone with terrible nerves when it comes to major life events like this, I worried that I would come off too nervous or mess up on the interview because it is such a serious event. I aimed to contain it the best I can, but that lizard brain somewhere in my subconscious just takes over and won't let me stop shivering or stumbling on words.
Don't worry, missind33! I promise you, your are so right about your score being down the bracket of normal scores. I'm sure your other scores elsewhere will make up for it, and honestly it's hardly bad at all! Just keep confident that they will make the best decision possible on this, and of course that it will be in your favor.
I'm with you guys, happy to hear no interviews will be necessary but that definitely means it's all a numbers game and that's terrifying! I hope mine are enough :/ at least they said 8 weeks so we can relax knowing our apps are truly complete at this time and we'll know something soon enough!
Yeah, it's the numbers that make me worried. With only a 3.88 pre-req, I don't have that shiny 4.0 that almost everyone seems to have, and my overall is less than amazing. But we will all just stay calm and have a bunch of cookies. Seriously, I wish I could make all of us come cookies to just sit here and eat together. What better way to calm down than with some fresh, hot cookies?
Since I can't do that, I guess I'll just focus my energy on blowing this semester out with all A's.
Oh gosh, those sound awesome. Personally I could kill for some double or triple chocolate chunk cookies...
I wish. I'm a student at Seminole. This semester I have 4 classes, and I will officially graduate with my AA. I'm doing the foreign language requirement this semester and over summer as well.
Are you still doing school or are you all done?
I just saw the email too. I'm not sure what to think of this actually. I thought the interview would give them a good idea of the types of students who are applying to the program, and whether they will be able to handle it. It hard to think you might not get in just because of a bad overall GPA. . All week can do is hope for the best and that we all make it in! Btw missind33, your TEAS score is great, that is right in the competitive range! Ivoryleola, your 3.88 pre req GPA is amazing! Don't worry about it! :)
Thank you guys. I swear I don't think I could keep calm if I tried, but knowing I'm not alone helps. I think my husband will be insane by the time late March rolls around. I've only been mentioning this 5 times a day since.....November? Yeah. I think he's stopped listening.
That's awesome, FutureUCF! Congrats on your AA! I know I can't wait to have mine. Although it doesn't do a thing for job purposes without the BSN portion of it, it's still nice to be able to say that I'm a college graduate, even if it means so little in the real world.

(I just realized how poorly I worded all that. Let me correct.)
I've never done any background checks on myself like that so I didn't know much about the process or UCF's procedure. Of course my background is perfect but I didn't know if a mistake could have been made or not since I can't see what UCF sees. So I asked if it was all clear on my record to them- but apparently if it's not they send out some sort of letter.
Good to know I suppose in case anyone has doubts on their records, or if you're just overly worried like me.
(It'll be the death of me, I swear) But of course call if you're curious or concerned.
One week since it opened and it feels like a month to me. Eek.
