UCF Summer 2018 Second Degree BSN

Published

Is anyone else applying to the Summer 2018 Second Degree BSN cohort at the University of Central Florida? It seems like it is taking forever for the actual application to open up (January 1).

Hoping to see some other folks just as excited as I am!!

omg congratulations!! An invite for an interview or what?

Its an invite to interview for the scholarship. From my understanding, based off the essay, scores and resume, they invite the applicants they like most to interview for either full or half tuition scholarships. In case anyone was wondering what my stats looked like I had a 3.56 GPA, 4.0 Prerequistes, and 92.7 Teas.

When is your interview? You'll have to tell us all about it! I want to live vicariously through you while I wait for my own decisions lol

I also got my invite to interview for the scholarship! Hopefully that means good odds of getting in the program? Crossing my fingers for both!! Soooo close!!

3.56 GPA 4.0 Prereqs 87 TEAs and UCF alumni (does that hold any weight?)

Hi Lanntis, thank you so much for your patience and giving us so much information regarding the program. Sorry for not replying you for the past month because i was overseas the whole time...

Based on what you said, we can pick whichever clinical sites we want as long as we sign it up fast?

On the program website, I see that we have to keep 3.0 GPA in order to stay in the program, does the 3.0 GPA means the average GPA? Not trying to sound over-worried but what if one of my classes falls below 3.0? Thank you so much!!!!

Hi fiona,

there will be numerous clinical sites that open up for 7-9 students located in various spots around the central florida area (downtown orlando, Oveido, Altamonte Springs, Apopka etc.) It's first come, first serve. So when they tell you the sign up is ready, have a plan as to whether you want to be closer to where you live, or if you want a specific site or instructor for a certain reason.

For your GPA, you must keep a 75% average on exam scores in each class, before any other coursework will be counted towards your grade. This is common practice in all nursing schools. Some more harsh than others. a 75% is a C and thus a 2.0. You can't get straight C's because you do need to keep a 3.0 average. It's ok to get a C in a class though. If you receive certain scholarships , there can be separate requirements that you need to keep a 3.0 "Nursing" gpa every semester to keep the scholarship. Your nursing gpa will just count your coursework in the program and not your overall undergraduate GPA.

Hope that helps,

Lanntis.

Fiona, I just rechecked the student handbook, and took this piece for you. it's 3.0 for just certain scholarships, 2.5 is the minimum GPA my mistake.

"In order for a student to progress, complete and graduate from either the Basic or Accelerated Second Degree

program, the following criteria must be met:

1. Overall GPA of 2.5

2. Nursing Major GPA of 2.5

3. Earn a grade of at least "C" or "S" in all nursing courses.

4. Maintain continuous enrollment throughout the program of study.

5. Maintain enrollment in all program courses each semester."

Thanks Lanntis. I feel much better about the GPA information that you gave. For the clinical, do they offer many hospital sites? Out of curiosity what sites you choose?

I know i said it a lot of times, but still thank you again for your time to answer our questions haha.

It depends on the rotation and from semester to semester, Fiona. There is usually a decent selection of locales for LTC clinical and community. Florida Hospital, ORMC, Winnie Palmer will mostly be used for your Adult 1, Adult 2, OB, Pediatrics clinicals, University Behavioral Center, Aspire, south seminole (still Florida hospital system) are generally used for mental health clinicals. I have spent most of my time in the florida Hospital system, however I am hoping to do my practicum in an Orlando regional hospital because they are known for their psych unit, and that's my area :)

Hope that helps,

-Lanntis

Hi @Lanntis, I know this is pretty specific but do you know what time the emails will probably come out on the 8th? Do they send all the emails out at once or can we all expect them at different times?

I didn't apply for the scholarship but I've heard that if you're invited for an interview you have a really great chance of being accepted! Best of luck to everyone who was invited to interview, that's awesome!!
