UCF BSN Fall 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi guys,

I hope I'm not the only one already obsessing over my application for the Fall 2017 semester! I have finals this week and then I'm finally finished with the nursing pre-reqs and I'll have my AA after just two courses in the spring. The application window for the traditional BSN program at UCF is in February and I'm so ready! I thought we could all come together here like I've seen others do in the past to share our stats and words of advice/encouragement.

Here are my stats:

Overall GPA: 3.71

Science Pre-req: 3.67

Non-Science Pre-req: 4.0

TEAS: 86.7

I feel like my stats aren't particularly competitive for the traditional program so I'll also be applying to Valencia-UCF's concurrent program next May.

Anyone else a little too excited the the next few months to fly by? What are your stats? Are you currently a UCF student or transfer? Are you applying to any other programs?

K, so. Just me!

Hello,

I'm also applying to UCF, but focused on the 2nd degree BSN currently as I already hold 2 bachelors. I would prefer the Traditional BSN because it's a bit slower but I think my stats are garbage and I stand no chance against everyone on this forum who have 4.0 everything and high TEA scores.

In any case,

Overall GPA: 3.567

Science PreReq - 4.0

Non-Science PreReq - 3.78

TEAS: 82.0 (I'm terrible at standardized tests. I don't have time to take it again before the deadline for the 2nd degree BSN).

Anyone know if this is competitive at all?

Hi Lanntis! Your stats look pretty good to me. Way to go on the 4.0 science prereq gpa! When is the accelerated deadline? Can you also apply to the traditional BSN?

Hi reenec

I have a question: Is Chemistry required to apply for UCF?

I'm taking my prerequisites at Valencia.

Thanks Reenec! I wish I had your overall GPA. My first degree after high school I didn't pay enough care to guard my grades. That was almost 10 years ago. I've gotten straight A's ever since though through a 2nd psychology degree in 2014. Nursing will be a 3rd for me. I'm just really ready to get on with a career already!

The accelerated deadline is one month before the Traditional BSN. mid January. I emailed about also applying to the traditional, but the traditional is actually more competitive than the 2nd degree one (since people that don't have a degree already only have that one option). I was told in the email that "no one who has failed to enter the accelerated program has ever gotten into the traditional" ... that was kind of disheartening to hear.

Farah34,

Chemistry is not required by UCF, just "encouraged". I have called specifically to ask that question though. It's only important that you have another science like Biology etc. to use as your main natural science pre-req. :) Seminole also does not require Chemistry, but Valencia does require it. Seminole concurrent program also requires a "Diet Therapy" component of your nutrition course. I had to take that in case I want to apply to Seminole/UCF concurrent as a back up plan.

Thank you lanntis but Valencia don't require chemistry for ADN, that's why I'm asking if I have to take it for concurrent program or not.

I haven't taken chemistry. I asked both concurrent and traditional advisors and they both said it's not necessary. I did see it on an application checklist which makes me nervous that I might have been misinformed.

The advisor told me taking chemistry will make you more competetive but if you have a good gpa you shouldn't worry about it

Hi everyone,

I'm also applying to the 2nd degree BSN currently as I already have a BA. This will be a full on second career, so I want to get going and get finished as soon as I can since I won't be working while in school. I can't really afford to take 2 years off.

Here is where I'm sitting:

Overall GPA: 3.75

Science PreReq - 4.0

Non-Science PreReq - 4.0

TEAS: 86.7

I'm getting excited to apply next week! It's taken a year and half to finish out my prereqs at Valencia.

Wow lavidaverde your stats are so good! It took me about the same amount of time to finish my prereqs at Valencia too. One of the reasons I have my heart set on the traditional program is because it's only 5 semesters as opposed to 7 in the concurrent. It's not a huge difference but still. I have a very supportive spouse but we have a 3 year old and I worry about how long I'll be without work while in school. I know somehow we will find a way to make things work though. Good luck on your app!
