UC Davis MEPN 2019

Published

Just wanted to start a thread to see who is applying to this program and be able to share updates!

Yes and it's a lot more too. I wonder if we can just add on to the one we already submitted

I think the first essay is essentially a blend of the three different topics for the graduate admissions, right?

I didn't get an email yet and now I'm really nervous!

@sarahcat124 I was accepted into the nursing program itself. The next step would be to apply to graduate studies to obtain acceptance into Davis for Grad school. Which I will not be doing.

@MDWnurse sorry I'm so confused, so I applied on NursingCas and just got an email invitation to apply to grad studies to but it states no guarantee of getting in that's just the second round, right?

Also can I ask why you will not further be applying?

@sarahcat124 you are correct. @mdwnurse you passed prelims now there are secondaries to get in graduate peogram. Not in MEPN yet. Everyone will go through second rounds and it sounds they will notify us in January if you're in.

I received notification of second round admissions as well. Good luck everyone!! Great job in making it through next rounds.

@MamangoRN ok that's what I thought. Goodluck to you!

I did not make it to the second round. Best of luck to those of you that did! If anyone is willing, I'd be grateful to know your experience and build up to apply so I can create a better application next year.

@livewellmm My background is a little different. I have a bach in science in accounting. Worked in public and private accounting for roughly six-seven years. My last job I was an internal auditor for Sutter for 4 years and became a stay-at-home-mom for 4 years. Decided to go back to school and get a flexible career bc of my kids. Went back 2017 and finished my science classes meanwhile volunteered at a nursing home working with memory loss residents. Also currently volunteering at Kaiser Emergency dept. Completed about 150 hours currently. My LORs came from my professors in a&p, micro and nutrition. Prereq gpa 3.91 and overall cumulative gpa 3.6. I think Davis likes different backgrounds (interprofessional interaction), if you're well involved in helping those in need, show leadership skills in the community helps. During college I was a VP of a cultural group and completed many community service projects and was a member of an honors organization that completed community work (+100 hrs). I hope this helps a bit. Good luck in applying at Davis. Very surprised to make it to second round. Just never give up on your career aspirations. Lots of opportunity out there. When one door closes another opens :)

Thank you for sharing! I have 4 years of work experience in the public sector in Parks and Recreation in management, a bachelors in Arts in International Relations, Human Rights and African Studies, and lots of medical experience as an EMT and cpr/first aid trainer. I decided to pursue nursing after my mom was sick with cancer and have spent the past few years doing all the required pre-reqs. I have a great GPA and good recommendations but maybe something is missing. I have lots of other tid bits I thought made me qualified, but I'll just have to keep trying! Thank you for the positivity and I wish you the best of luck!

It seems like you accomplished alot. For my essays, I worked on it for a month and a half. Had it proofread by several people to get different perspectives to be sure my thoughts were clear and concise. Try to be as specific in your answers as you can. Like telling a story. What motivated you, why you want to be nurse? It could be the details that sells you as a candidate.

@livewellmm if you don't mind sharing your gpa stats? Cumulative and science? Sounds like you had a pretty good application I'm sure you will make it if you apply again
