Nursing Students School Programs

Just wanted to start a thread to see who is applying to this program and be able to share updates!

Hey guys, just submitted my application and am really excited! What are your guys' backgrounds or experiences in the healthcare field? best of luck to everybody! :)

Hey, congratulations! Doesn't it feel nice to breathe a big sigh of relief now that it's in?!

A little about me: I graduated college with a BA in psychology from LMU in 2017, and I am now working as a program specialist at an adult day center for people with Alzheimer's and dementia! I've been a volunteer Medical Assistant for three years, I've been a caregiver for about 1 year now, and I also practice Music Therapy! I specialize in work with people with Alzheimer's and dementia, which is why I want to become a nurse (ultimately a NP) : I want to treat this population with the kind of care and dignity they deserve to be treated with! Thanks for asking!

What about you? I'm excited to hear about your story/experience! Now on to the waiting game!

Wow thats great and you seem like you will be an AMAZING nurse! I'm actually graduating this December from San Diego State University with my BS in Kinesiology! I don't have that many volunteer hours, which definitely worries me because I know how competitive these programs are, but i'm hoping I can win them over with my statement of purpose and references lol. How did you like being a medical assistant?? If i don't get in this round, I plan on getting my EMT, MA, or CNA so I can gain more experience and be a more competitive applicant.

Thank you so much, that's very kind of you to say! From what I've heard about admissions (though I'm no expert) I think having a stellar personal statement and references as well as a strong academic record in a challenging major like Kinesiology (all of which I have a good feeling you possess) are all great contributing factors to being considered a competitive applicant at many schools!

I really like being an MA, it's engaging, and you gain a lot of technical skill, and become comfortable in a clinical environment, and I love being able to work with underserved populations (it just depends how much more time you want to devote to more schooling)!

I think all of those are great options, just depends on how much more school you want to do, and if you have a specific interest or speciality you'd like to pursue in nursing! It seems like you have the passion and commitment, and I also feel you'll be a wonderdful nurse!

Hey all! I also just finished applying to the program. Best of luck to everyone. I went to UC Davis for undergrad and volunteered at the UC Davis Medical Center which is right by the nursing school. It looks amazing and I'm waiting with baited breathe to see if they're interested in accepting me. Anyone know of when we'll be hearing back from them?

Hey Amy,

Best of luck to you too, it also sounds like you're a great candidate! What wonderful experience you have! As far as I can tell from prior years' posts on here, they contact us regarding whether we've been selected for interviews in early-mid November!

Wow November?! That's pretty fast! I'm super excited!

We won't know for sure until our additional graduate application has been accepted. I believe that happens in January

Hey all!í ½í¸ im just commenting because i plan on applying next year and want to chat!

Im doing my bachelors in health promotion at univ. Of texas. I have volunteer hours at my health department and want to be a public health nurse.

Hey there, awesome! Sounds like you're on a really good track to being a strong, well rounded applicant!

Thanks so much! My over all gpa isnt the best ..but im going to use the year i have between now and graduation to boost i kept trying with the bsn program so long but my health science gpa is a 3.8... So i hope that makes up for it. After reading about the mission of the program, i feel that they really focus on the community and health equity and minorities ..and i live on the border so my classes really focus on that and im minoring in community health.

Im super nervous.. I googled uc davis and saw the overall acceptance rate was 38% so now im nervous.

How is everyones week going?:)

Hi all! I'm hoping to apply to next years ELMSN program but was hoping to pick the brains of the lovely folks who do get in regarding program structure etc. Thanks in advanced :)
