Hiya folks!
It's a bit early, but since the application period opens in a couple of months, I thought I'd start this topic to share support/encouraging words/info/nervousness.
Is anyone else already excited for next September?

Hey guys
I’m new to this forum, hope you can help me out. I will be migrating to Canada soon as a Permanent Resident, and I plan to take up nursing.
I have a BSc degree and a medical degree in my home country. I have 4 years experience working as a medical doctor.
My question is, for the GPA, will they be looking at my medical transcript or my BSc?
In your opinion, Will being a doctor be a disadvantage or an advantage for my application?
thank you in advance!

They will only look at the last 30 undergraduate credits.
In general, working in a health-care setting is beneficial.

The supplemental application is now open for the 2021 cycle and the reference section has been removed. They might see it as unnecessary because they never contacted them anyways.

Hi, 99.9% is too high...more like 50%, I'm currently in the program and a good chunk of us in the program had our references contacted for verification.

Those that were either rejected or placed on the wait list were given a score for how they ranked among other applicants (see my previous post). Unfortunately, you are given a separate score (1-4) for Admission Average, Supplementary Application, and Casper. So even if you happen to score a 1 in grades, but do poorly in either your supplementary or Casper, you may not get a spot in the program. I would suggest you work on all aspects of your application rather than rely solely on your grades. In regards to your question about international applicants, they actually stated in their FAQ that preference is given to domestic student. Read here about "consideration given to applicants who have a bachelor's degree or to applicants who are Canadian residents". Hope that was helpful and good luck with your application!

Hi there, I was wondering if you had time to work part-time during your program? Is it not a hot commodity to work part time?

Yes, definitely still apply! You won't know for sure unless you try. Worse case scenario, you get a chance to learn how you can improve your application for future intakes (just like I did)!

Hi everyone,
I was wondering when the supplemental application will be opening? I wanted to start working on the questions, but I am not sure if it'll open right when I submit my initial application and pay the fee.
Any insight would be helpful, good luck everyone! :)

Hey, So the upper years before us recommended that Term 1 is not a good time to work. But now that I'm sort of half-way through the term, I want to say that it's do-able to work part-time if your work is accommodating to your schedule? I decided not to work, but I still volunteer on the side. We get Fridays off and you either have clinical on Tuesday/Wednesday OR Saturday/Sunday. Ideally you're using the time when you don't have clinical to study, but I still found a lot of downtime.
I would say working a shift or two is doable in Term 1, it's just stressful the first 3 weeks of September because there's a lot of tiny admin and modules you need to complete.

Usually the supplemental application is not due until January so I wouldn't fret about it now. It's basically looking at your school/work history, references, community/leadership experience, and a personal statement explaining why you want to pursue nursing.
I have completed the CASPer assessment. I have finished the supplemental application (might review it a few times and edit, but essentially it's done). I'm sure there's no incentive to submit it early. I guess soon, I'm all in and just wait. Although there's no reference section this cohort it seems?

Hi everyone!
I am also applying to the UBC 2021 Nursing Program. I have a B+ average in the last 30 credits of my undergraduate degree in psychology. I received an A- in the anatomy and physiology course. My previous work experience includes being a mental health worker and youth counsellor in Vancouver. I look forward to getting to know all of you!

I was wondering if anyone has gotten an email from UBC about the deadlines. I applied to the nursing program in September but haven't gotten any emails yet?

Hi! I just received one. Have you checked your spam/junk folder? sometimes my e-mail will flag UBC as junk.
Here are the important deadlines:
February 28th - Supplemental deadline date
January 31st - Deadline for sending proof of registration for in-progress pre-requisite courses
