UBC 2021

Published

Hiya folks!

It's a bit early, but since the application period opens in a couple of months, I thought I'd start this topic to share support/encouraging words/info/nervousness.

Is anyone else already excited for next September?

Specializes in nursing.

Hello everyone!

I applied today, here we go! Very excited!

I am currently struggling with getting my transcript for my bachelors degree, as it is overseas and from non English speaking country... I had to ask my friends back home, as I am not even able to travel... Very frustrating! anyone in the same boat?

Hey future nurses!

I’m a US international student and wondering if they prefer locals or do they look at international students application separately?
For cGPA I currently have around 4.0-3.67, not much volunteering but currently helping a nursing home, past environmental club leader and working retail about 2 years. Haven’t taken my CASPer. Really nervous about that. If I had around 3 points in my CASPer what are my chances? Any tips would be great! We got this! ?

I believe before they revamped the admission requirement website, they had preference for Bachelor's Degree holders and Canadian citizens and/or BC Residents. I can't seem to find that information anywhere now though.

Edit: I found it! It's in their FAQ.

"Any applicants who have either 48 transferrable credits or a recognized degree are treated equally in terms of the application process. Canadian citizens and permanent residents are given priority when offers are made for entry into the program."

Not BC resident but permanent resident to be precise with the lanugage and you do not need a bachelor's degree but a minimum of 48 transferrable credits to correct my first statement.

Thank you so much!! I’m coming from an associates. With I think, more than 48 credits. Thanks again ??

Hello ! I'm really nervous about my GPA, online school has been tough ?

I understand that they take the last 30 credits courses, but I'm not sure which credits they'll take if we overshoot. I took 3 classes this term, 2 in the Summer and 6 in the Spring term. So in total I have 34 credits. Does anyone know if they prioritize certain courses over others (ex. full year courses vs 1 term courses) or if they just drop the courses with the lowest grade?

Really appreciate the help and Goodluck to us all!

I am applying for 2021! very nervous. I wish everyone the best of luck.

The supplement application was released recently. I noticed there's no where to add references? I thought we needed two references' contact information for our application. Perhaps later in this month, we will need to fill out a form or some sort online?|

Edit: I was working on the application and I got an error when I saved and lost all progress! Fair warning for others, save often!

Hi everyone!

Just thought I’d post to see if anyone who has applied before might know the answer. I have a question regarding references/letters of recommendation. Does anyone know if UBC accepts letters of recommendation as part of the supplemental application? Or is it just form references? Also is there a certain number or limit to how many you can include in your application? I work with children and some of their parents want to provide a reference for me as I’ve told them I’m applying but I’m not quite sure what the process is like so I don’t know what to tell them.

Thanks!

I found out that I actually have a cGPA 4.33 for my last 45 units. I’m hoping my GPA can carry me if I don’t do as well in my Casper. Since this pandemic has happened do you think there are better chances of getting in? especially for international students?

UBC doesn’t accept letters of recommendation, in previous years they would just ask for your reference’s email/number, 99.9% of the time they don’t contact them. The supplemental application is now open for the 2021 cycle and the reference section has been removed. They might see it as unnecessary because they never contacted them anyways.

Hi,

I made a post about this earlier!

I applied last year and was placed on the wait list, but unfortunately did not make it in. Those that were either rejected or placed on the wait list were given a score for how they ranked among other applicants (see my previous post).

Unfortunately, you are given a separate score (1-4) for Admission Average, Supplementary Application, and Casper. So even if you happen to score a 1 in grades, but do poorly in either your supplementary or Casper, you may not get a spot in the program. I would suggest you work on all aspects of your application rather than rely solely on your grades.

In regards to your question about international applicants, they actually stated in their FAQ that preference is given to domestic student.
Read here about "consideration given to applicants who have a bachelor's degree or to applicants who are Canadian residents".

Hope that was helpful and good luck with your application!

Hey! this might answer your question:

 https://nursing.ubc.ca/questions/faq/admission-average-GPA-calculation-BSN-admissions

"In cases where counting back 30 credits lands in the middle of an academic term, the academic average of that term will be used for the remaining required credits to reach the total of 30"

I am wondering about how heavily the UBC weight on volunteer in the supplemental application?

I have a BSc and completed LPN program and worked as an LPN for few years.  However, I do not have any recent volunteer experiences.  I am wondering if it can affect greatly on how UBC evaluate the application?
